By Hyginus's account, Odysseus never forgave Palamedes for ruining his attempt to stay out of the Trojan War. When Palamedes advised the Greeks to return home, Odysseus hid gold in his tent and wrote a fake letter purportedly from Priam. Thus Palamedes was accused of treason and stoned to death by the Greeks.

I know I should be more concerned and not support death by military stoning execution created by false evidence but Odyssey did not want to deal with this and Palamedes decided to enforce the oath thereby dragging odysseus into this. Making Odysseus his enemy not a smart move. Why would you take on the man who built his own palace, pretended to act crazy so we didn’t have to go to war and essentially came up with this whole pact to get an introduction to Penelope!

@@adeleaslan8182 well I saw both versions, either Palmedes or Agamemnon himself : in both, to test Odysseus' sanity in order to verify if he trully is insane, the respective arsehole put Telemachaus in front of him to see if he would trample his own son (wich of course he doesn't), that creates a ressentment that Odysseos will keep to himself until, in the Palmedes version, he frames Pal for treason by planting false evidences in his tent. Either way, this story not being made by Homer, it has multiple versions.

I love the sense of simultaneous vengeance but also the stilted, emotionless edge to Ody's expression here. It really emphasizes how, despite the raw pain that Palamedes has caused him, he's truly just too tired to enjoy the revenge as much as its an obligation, something to do because its on his list. Because for all his problems, Palamedes is one of the least among them

Watching for like the 15th time, I’m struck by how almost bored diomedes looks with the whole thing, how little setting this guy up to die means to him! Like yeah, he’s helping ody who has a grudge for a reason, but the nonchalant attitude is so perfect. We love deeply morally gray characters!!

I really love how semi-expressionless Odysseus is. Like knowing what he did was messed up but he just doesn't care. He's been stewing in his anger at Palamedes for years and despised him for what he did. (Ody probably couldn't even see Palamedes as anyone other than "the guy who endangered my child and made me leave home") I think it's funny af that Palamedes' dad went around trying to fuck with the other king's kingdoms and it worked as most of their wives had affairs but then you have Penelope, the WIFE of the guy who set your son up to get murdered, and she wasn't buying it. Got revenge on all the kings except for the one who was truly responsible because his wife was too cool. "You're telling me, my husband, the embodiment of simping, is going to replace me? When he knows I'm the best thing that ever happened to him? Get out."

@@WolfyTheWitch I DIDN'T KNOW NAUPLIUS WAS PARTIALLY THE REASON WHY ANTICLEA DIED! I thought it was just her believing it after it's been so long. Was it mentioned in the Odyssey??? I mean makes sense, and Nauplius technically got SOME revenge. He can't suddenly flip-flop from "oh did I say he was bringing home a new wife? I meant to say he's actually dead." to Penelope, as it would just prove he was making it all up. So he just went to the rest of his family to try and convince them of something that would cause them pain instead. Probably part of the reason why Penelope knew Odysseus was still alive, as she knew everything Nauplius said was bullshit.

Nauplius did fuck a lot of people in revenge tho. He wasn't bad at all, his only crime was to call out Odysseus bullshit proving he was sane and capable of going to the war HE was indirectly responsible for, by putting his baby son in the way he was riding mindlessly. The risk was killing Odysseus son, but he was certain that Odysseus was lying about his madness. His death was unfair, then his dad in revenge spread the news of the crimes the greeks were commiting in war and how many concubines they were hoarding to their wives, which ironically didn't affect Odysseus, the man who set the fake evidence to get him killed.
