Initial stages(in 70's) Raja sir inspired from Salil choudhary's music but not copied like other copycat music composers.. Moreover those beginning days film Producers & Directors used to demand & ask to sound or copy from bollywood & western songs, but once Ilaiyaraja established as music director, he never copied or used anyone's music, thats ilayaraja... But in bollywood i.e.S.D.Burman & R.D.Burman copied majority of the songs from western song even after they become popular but Ilayaraja not done like them..

Before the emergence of Ilaiyaraja in 1976, Hindi songs were more popular in Tamil Nadu, and the trend was to copy or remake of hit Hindi songs / movies. But Ilaiyaraja reversed the trend. Before 1975 atleast in 5 movie halls in my home town Madurai, Hindi movies screened. But tgese days hardly any. The quality of Hindi movies have gone down drastically. All the four South indian languages Tamil, Telugu Malayalam and Kannada industry boomed like hell.
