You know what scares me? There might be, or most likely are other species out there somewhere, with equal or more advanced technologies and space travel. They might, one day, happen to stumble upon this little drone, the voyager. They will react like we would. Surprised, scared, curious. They follow the coordinates, after years of traveling, they arrive in our solar system, locate the blue planet. When they start to orbit it, they are confused. That planet doesn't seem to have habitable conditions. They send out a lander and when they start to fly above the surface they are absolutely horrified. They are in terror: there is nothing left alive. The ground is cracked, dried out. Traces of civilizations, buildings, parks, harbors, streets, everything is destroyed. The radiation on this planet is too high even for their advanced ships. They were a hundred years too late.
@PingKerman9 жыл бұрын
they would be a couple million/billion years late, it will take millennium for the voyager probes to reach a distant planet, by the time that happens we will either no longer exist because our species died out, evolved, or we abandoned earth and became stellar beings
@BoarhideGaming9 жыл бұрын
Well, neither you nor me nor anybody on this planet can safely say what is out there. It might just as well be that the voyager passed some sort of Einstein-Rosen bridge and the species that found it might know how to navigate those. We have explored and understood so very few things in this universe, this was just a sudden idea I had. I found it deeply troubling.
@ASpaceOstrich9 жыл бұрын
BoarhideGaming Astronomers and those in their field can totally say what's out there, that's what they do for a living. Voyager will be found, if it ever is, by somebody picking up it's transmissions and physically going to get it. Personally I expect we'll find it, if we get some form of "jump drive" we'll overtake it, and be momentarily alarmed by these strange signals we're picking up, until we realise what it is.

Even more than humans. Now there's a feat to be proud of.

In the time it would take one of the Voyager probes to get to another star; mankind would most likely be long gone, and almost all traces of our civilizations would have disappeared as well. In a sad way; the Voyager probe that made the Kerbals go to earth might be the only thing left to tell the tale of humanity. Our own little message in a bottle, having reached distant shores to tell the tale of a world of creatures that looked up at the sky and thought "is there anyone out there?".

Truly, all we are is a pile of molecules with the miraculous ability to think. But that's only part of it. We can emote, we have morals. We have concepts that are cherished and concepts that are destroyed. We are nothing but protons, neutrons, and electrons, plus there respective makes. That's it. We think so highly of ourselves even though all other things are made of protons, neutrons, and electrons. We, in the scale of the Universe, at least for now, are truly nothing.

How can I describe my experience of this masterpiece... before I saw this movie I probably never had to struggle with tears, but this one... those pictures... the first rondevouz above kerbin... it made me feel how tiny humanity and how unimportant our daily routine might be. To see a single satellite as the only sign of humanity to the unknown space... never thought about that before. It just made me question our own stupidity. Our hate against each other... war, fear... You might realize, that this movie made me think a lot. Its brilliant.

I was weeping at the beauty and the power of this film...never has the longing to explore, to reach further been more strongly ingrained in my mind. This made me homesick, and I live here on earth. It depends on where they landed. North Korea, Iran, and Russia would be the most likely to blow them out of the sky. China would probably let them land, then capture them to steal their technology, so they can make cheap Chinese knockoffs. America would be the best place to land. Specifically, either Florida (The Kennedy Space Center would be a comforting sight for them), South Dakota (given that they landed in the forest, that's a possibility, anyway), or Boca Chica, Texas (the exploding rockets would be a comforting sight for them).
