1990 (31 years ago now) and how quietly reserved and softly-spoken they all seemed. Somehow i cannot imagine any self-respecting manager, publicist or agent of a band nowadays, in this age of ubiquitous social media, self-promotion and people's micro-attention-spans, allowing a band in their charge to be so reticent and 'unforthcoming' in selling themselves. The band come across as gauche, media-unaware and painfully shy. But the music is something else and is soaring, mighty & majestic

They were a great band but this interview could well have been the point where it was all over. Because of their miserable attitude about playing songs.... for their fans!!

Ian completely despised promoting his band. He just wanted to venture forth with new art and material. You could tell there was a split when the rest of the band carried forward on Slow Buildings to try to make some type of break into the mainstream. Ian obviously departed and just wasn't going to have any of it. They fit into the shoegaze stereotype.
