I'm finally back after such a long break. I've been really busy and I try to make these vids when I can. In this video I discuss a few almost-mythical prehistoric fish that actually existed in Earth's past. I discuss a few famous ones like Megalodon and Heliocoprion to a few obscure ones like the giant fish of the Kem Kem which where the food of Spinosaurus. Hope you enjoy!

*Major Correction: In the video I refer to the Kem Kem Formation as the location of Stromer's giant fish and dinosaur fossils; however, I mixed up the Kem Kem Formation with the Bahariya Formation. I actually meant to say the Bahariya Formation. The two formations are dated to basically the same time period, had very similar fauna, and were close to each other geographically, but nonetheless they are two different formations and I made a mistake.

Finally, someone has said what I have always thought. I was always annoyed at the idea of megalodon just being a giant supper sized great white. It just baffled me that people thought something so boring was cool. It is far more interesting to me to ponder the idea of a gigantic shark with a living ecosystem on its back and possibly an appearance that was different from any other shark today. Maybe it is just me, but this shark is way more exciting to me now.

it is an scp,a collective of fish, when a fish is damaged the entire population which consists of a large variety of species will get affected, also small fish can melt to heal the larger army fish, they can melt into one gooey monster than feeds on organic and non-organic substances, and it has enough intelligence to have complex speech, and it seems to evolve very quickly as they reproduce each time food is acquired, and they seem to be highly adaptive and basically even controlling their own evolution by changing their own dna in unknown means

Videos like bring something new to the table on the topic of "list videos", regarding mysterious or prehistoric animals. You take great care in _making sure your size estimates are up to date_ ,as well as _properly sourcing all of your measurements_ ,and also _correcting your mistakes for all to see when they happen._ This is one of the reasons you're my favorite content creator.

The fossil Pokémon have always been really original, and they sometimes make references that are for paleontological nerds only. In fact I think that part of the anomalocaris fame is due to the Pokémon anorith. I wish that they made the fossil Pokémon using much more unpopular creatures like the did in gen 3.

Great video Trey! Interesting fact: the specimen that finally cracked the Helicoprion mystery was actually not a new discovery, the fossil had been sitting in the museum's basement for over 60 years! Traces of cartilage had been found in the specimen during the 50's, which is how scientists knew the whorl was somewhere on the bottom jaw, but it wasn't until 2013 that a new research team used modern CT scanning and 3D rendering to put it all together and accurately see what the whole jaw looked like. I recommend the book "Resurrecting the Shark" by Susan Ewing, it's a great read about the mystery of Helicoprion

I was actually talking to my science teacher once about how I thought that it was stupid how almost every art piece of Megalodon looked more great white-like than I thought it should. And she responded by saying that that is what paleontologists do (use comparisons with living animals to do reconstruct extinct ones). So we kept on arguing for a little bit longer(I thought that there should still be more diverse reconstructions since Megalodon is not a true great white, and I thought that this was just unhealthy science to only restore Megalodon in one unconfirmed, close-minded manner), and then she did concede that it was a little bit lazy. Glad you could show me some unique Megalodon reconstructions, and this is just a great video in general! Glad to see you once again.

Yay for prehistoric fish! They really deserve their chance for the spotlight. Also, YES PLEASE, address the Paluxy River footprints!!! I visited them with my dad about a month ago, and he won't shut up about how the godless paleontologists are lying about the human footprints being fakes and misidentifications. I'd correct him myself, but his comments have revealed such a long, tangled chain of basic misconceptions about how the entire fields of both geology and paleontology work, I don't even know where to begin. Even if I end up not liking your approach to addressing them, it might at least give me something to work off of and collect my thoughts better.

I'm honestly terrified of the ocean but weirdly fascinated by it. I've drawn a few scenes that have mythical sea creatures with my most recent picture being a Kraken reading a book and drinking something from a mug. What I like about creating these pictures is putting alien creatures in there. I've drawn large whale like beings, weird looking fish, ray like creatures, eel like creatures and invertebrates. I've taken a few pages from how Subnautica went about their designs as well as Star wars. Not sure if these animals would be possible but they are still fun to draw.

I spent most of my STEM class today digging up information about the kem kem formation. And wow, I really wish more info about the kem kem formation. Truly interesting. Imagine using a underwater drone and drifting past giants like mawsonia and bawitius. Talking a walk along the banks and seeing some of these creatures near the bank.

I looked this up. There are about six major ways that this is getting pronounced: Wikipedia gives /ˈbɪʃɪər/ (bye-sh-ear). KZbin has over six others, none of which matches Wikipedia: bih-sheer; bih-sher; bit-chur; bee-chair; bye-chair; bih-keer, bih-care; bih-cheer; bee-sheer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qtgIhvpq2VfJI bih-sheer or bisher or bitcher kzbin.info/www/bejne/npS2kGyogsStkNk bee-chair, bih-chair kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXvJc2Wllph2qJI bye-chair kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJeqmKuao7GJf9U bih-keer, bih-care kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5OliX2mbrGglbc bitcher, bih-chur, bit-chur kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2Obfn-perh_Y9k bih-cheer, bitch-here, bee-sheer kzbin.info/www/bejne/foPPq3mveKqdmLM Large bichirs in an aquarium, video from 2013. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpy2d3yHbJd7fZY Clearer video from 2012, several large bichirs. Very confusing. I will assume that Wikipedia's phonetic guide might be relied on with more weight: /ˈbɪʃɪər/ (bye-sh-ear or bye-sheer). Hope this helps. B'H.

I wonder if there was any highly intelligent cephalopods back in the past? There seems to be a great diversity of their predators. My assumption is that there were even more species and types of cephalopods we don't have remains of. I'm sure at many points in time, the seas must have been swarming with all kinds.
