Thanks Donny. I usually drink some activated charcoal from the fire pit if I feel like I ate something bad. I'll have to try Usnea tea next time as it grows all over South Texas.
@i-love-comountains38503 жыл бұрын
Regarding ash/charcoal I've heard the phrase "white if you're tight (constipated), black if you're slack (diarrhea)" and it helped a lot. I'd definitely recommend throwing some pine needles in the water as you're heating it. I do that for all my backcountry teas, since pine needles have a nice flavor and are packed with vitamin C.
@__-pl3jg3 жыл бұрын
@@i-love-comountains3850 - Good to know, thx. Id never heard that clever saying before. I've always used the black bits and crushed it into a fine powder. I started out using commercially sold activated charcoal at home, then tried the stuff in my camp fire once as a necessity and it worked just as well.
@i-love-comountains38503 жыл бұрын
@@__-pl3jg Happy to help! Thank you for letting me know the homemade is just as good as storebought. I used activated charcoal for heartburn and sour stomach so I'll be saving a ton of money at the expense of a little embarrassment for having spent entirely too much money on something i could get for free. I'd only ever used the ash for diarrhea, didn't even make the connection to firepit charcoal, despite knowing the phrase 😅
@__-pl3jg3 жыл бұрын
@@i-love-comountains3850 - Just make sure the activated charcoal from your fire pit is created from a non resinous hardwood and you'll be fine. Oak is what most commercial stuff is made from.
@i-love-comountains38503 жыл бұрын

I used usnea topically to treat mersa on my cat . The vet gave him the default anti biotic treatment several times which had about the same results each time a temporary reduction in progression . The usnea had about the same effect without the tolerance and resistance that eventually comes from taking long term antibiotics . Seeing how bad the infection was I was impressed with the home made Usnea topical extract .
@user-id7sk5eg5x8 ай бұрын
Just an extra note of caution with cats - anything topical is also ingested since they groom themselves so much. Usnea causes severe liver damage in humans when ingested, so who knows what happens with cats.
