Palia - How I Catch Epic Bugs! {Fairy Mantis/Jewelwing Dragonfly/Rainbow-tipped Butterfly)

Decided to do this run today and LO AND BEHOLD THE GROVE SPAWNED ABOVE THE PAVEL MINES. I was SCREAMING. Then I was doing my quests and minding my own business and realized it was 3 am. Did the route in reverse and I got a freaking mantis. The thing is I was looking from above and I said "nah, that's one of the purple ones" and then I took a closer look and it was the fancy fairy one. Man, I've started playing 8 days ago and I already have an epic bug. I feel blessed. Thank you, I get SO LOST in this map and this guide helped me GREATLY.

I caught a fairy mantis by accident. I was running along hunting. Luckily I was paying attention and saw what looked like an iridescent grasshopper. The way I stopped in my tracks like skuuurrt! 😂 I have a ridiculous love of anything iridescent or rainbow. I have kept my eyes hecka peeled since then. 😂

I'm super new to the game and struggling honestly to follow your path without showing more of the map. Still great video and it actually helped me catch one of the fairy mantis on the very first "run" I did. I say "run" because I don't know the maps well yet and I have no idea if I was even going the same route lol. Maybe a picture of just the map with the route drawn out on the map itself would help newer players like myself. Just a friendly suggestion. Been watching quite a few of your vids so far and SUPER helpful. Thank you for the great content.

It does, and it will. Unfortunately the Switch can't handle the same graphics a computer can.

Watched this video last night and today I was able to get 1 starred and 10 regular Azure Stonehoppers, 3 regular Fairy Mantis, 2 regular Spitfire Cicada, 2 regular Ancient Amber Beetles, 1 starred and 1 regular Cerulean Cicada, 2 starred Jewelwing Dragonflies, AND 1 regular Rainbow Tipped Butterfly!! I did use 3 Buzzy jars and 3 smoke bombs. Many of these bugs were my first catches! Thank you so much!! - Brynn

A hot tip that many people don't know is that every Flowtree grove will always spawn a magic creature OR an epic bug. So try to get there 1st!

So true- grove time is the best time to get epic stuff elsewhere because people aren't running through. An epic bug is at every grove hence the rainbow tipped butterfly lol

If you're the first to the grove you get an epic bug, Elkton John, a Mujin or the Chappa! :) But ya gotta be first!

This is super helpful, and I'm going to try it today! Do wish you'd showed a screenshot of the map with your route traced, as after a month of playing I'm still struggling a little to navigate without the map. I recognized most of it, but once you jumped down and were running around towards the end I got a little lost until you came to the lake >.

I will take that into consideration next time for sure! Honestly, the important part of the run is really just starting by the bridge, the path up to top and then checking down below while staying up top. I mix up the end a lot depending on what I see. Sometimes I also check by the bridge at the lighthouse because I've found some epics over there now, too! But my route does change depending on what I've found, and on how many players I see running around from which direction. So start low, head up, clear that top level, then slowly work your way down while keeping your eyes open!

I know I"m so sorry! The big thing is to start at 3AM. If you're having a ton of issues, use a buzzy jar. Chase that, only in southern Bahari. If you start at 3AM that's when they first spawn though, so it is so much easier to get it! Look high and low. :)

I need to try this! Been looking for the starred Fairy mantis and Jewelwing what feels like forever. My question is you do 10 runs is that 1 run starting at 3am per palia day or 10 runs starting at 3 am and going all day?

10 runs all starting at 3AM! And you can time it! So 3AM in game is about the 7th minute of every hour, so if you have other things to do...like laundry, boring stuff...you can get where you need to be in the game, go do chores or whatever, then log back in at the top of the hour and be there just in time to do your run. :) That's how I did a bunch of these! In between I walked the dog, took a shower, did laundry, etc.

The game was fun.. up untill I hit lvl 5 friendships with everyone.. now there isn't nothing to do but run around harvesting materials.. but there is no incentive to keep playing.. basically the game is over..

Ive noticed SO many people spam throwing Bug bombs! If ya just toss one every 2 seconds or so (rather than in quick succession) you wont waste near as many bug bombs :) Wait till right before they release and then toss again. saves thousands of bombs

When do groves spawn and where

In Bahari at midnight in game, and there are several places they can spawn. If you listen at midnight, the grove will make a sound when it spawns! Run in that direction to find it. :)

It varies on the bug, but rainbow tipped butterflies begin spawning at 3AM. A few of the bugs tend to do their switch then, so it's just a good time to do the run.
