Thanks for coming up. Saw on the live news feed last night the chopper providing a close up feed of the firing ops along the ridgetop. You could see it happening which was very cool. Fox11 live I think. At one point the firing guys had to reposition and lost one of their helipads and watering pumpkins. Hairy. Glad they could hold that area. Had a lot of foscheck.👋👱♀️

Can’t quite believe the urban sprawl into those canyons. Sure have large acreage property with spread out structures, but to have high density developments in that topography is quite insane.
@michaelhotten752Күн бұрын
Zeke - they may have not fired in the Santa Ynez Falls area is because there was a recent fire in that bowl (within last 4 years). there was also a fire on the southwest side of Eagle Rock (Eagle Rock Trail Head on your map) also within the last couple years that is likely preventing spread into that area. ADD - just found some photos and the fire South-Southwest of Eagle rock was in 2021.

Hey--JPL is on the border of the Eaton fire. So could you start taking a look at that? The facility is evacuated and they need to get back on the lab to deal with the space craft! It's not being covered but it's important. Of course, the neighborhoods and the people in the northern San Gabriel Valley are as important and their land is as important as the folk on the Westside. (I'm from West LA, worked at SMMNA & a state land agency for SMMts long ago but I also lived in Pasadena and am familiar with that area as well. More recent burns up there--but JPL is a big deal. I don't know if Hughes still has a facility in Malibu.) According to Watch Duty (yeah...I know) there is an L.A. County Fire Department camp in the arroyo adjacent to the lab. That arroyo/wash is usually a staging area for fires in that area.
@MarcosElMalo2Күн бұрын
The JPL complex is in the Station Fire burn scar, and is /relatively/ safe, as is the Altadena Meadows neighborhood immediately to the NE of JPL. There’s still a chance that the fire could work itself in one of the canyons north of JPL, but it’s got a lot less fuel to work with. The probability of JPL being threatened is low, but not so low that they’re letting workers back in. Same deal with the Meadows neighborhood. East of that area is mostly already burned, but there might be parts of Millard Canyon that didn’t burn. I don’t imagine there is very much fire danger from the arroyo flood control area between Devil’s Gate Dam and JPL or Hahaumauga Park. People might be desperate to get back to work, but they’re just going to have to wait for a few more days.

I'm commenting from Pittsburg, CA, because I posted yesterday about the bad air quality. There was a very strong wind this morning and now my skies are clear blue. I know my grubby air quality yesterday was probably unrelated to the southern fires, but it's good to post for the algorithm anyway.

Can only imagine the effects of fire retardant on the environment long term. Makes me wonder what the point is of preserving nature if you are inevitably going to have to throw something like chemicals on it because of mismanagement.

If the winds stay what they are tonight, is it likely that Encino or Tarzana has to worry? I’m assuming “yes” because it’s still an evac zone.

I was wondering if there was an issue with electric car batteries in these fires? Are they toxic or do they help to spread the fire?? I’m sure there are issues with gasoline cars in a fire also but I didn’t know if electric cars are a bigger issue.

Inflatable dome houses covered in concrete would be a quick and economical option for rebuilding. there will be tons of agregate and potash to mix with the concrete from the "concrete jungle" and the rebar can be made with alloy metal from burnt cars. There are not enough trees available in the us to be cut down for wood construction rebuilding purposes. We are going to need to get creative and use and recycle the materials that can be sourced locally.
