Ex-forger, Shaun Greenhalgh, is set the task of making a Renaissance animal plate of the type invented by the great French potter, Bernard Palissy. Palissy's plates are alive with writhing reptiles, but for Shaun, killing grass snakes in Lancashire is not an option.
Perspective is KZbin's home for the arts. Come here to get your fill of great music, theatre, art and much, much more!

Palissy was a genius. So pleased to see such a thoughtful and entertaining programme about his technique. Love these episodes. Keep up the good work, Perspective.

Just beautiful. Reminds me of my pottery class and the vase I made decorated with all kinds of caterpillars. I love this show.

Now I know what to do with my pet turtles in the future. Instead of flushing them, I'll just make a Palissy Plate! Very Cool!

What a talented man. I like his version even more than the Palissy. I tried to look him up on line to make a purchase to no avail. Thanks for this, loved it.

She's painful to watch, but it's effortless and fascinating to see Shaun recreate anything. He's incredibly talented, and I'm glad he saw the error of his ways. There's so much irony here that I can't stand it.

Yes. Too much. I'm sure she's quite knowledgeable, but if I was a student of hers I would need lots of time away from her to recharge for another lecture. Way over the top. And he's so understated and subdued. I do like this series though, I have learned to skip through the bits with her. He's just too clever and intelligent, it's fascinating to watch him.

Put cool Water in a bowl, then shake the plaster into the water, until a dry mound in the center covers 50% of the surface area. Let that all slake until wet, then stir gently. This will avoid lots of lumps.

I couldn't help but think of George Ohr, the Biloxi potter of the 19th century, who like Palissy, turned out extraordinary things, disquieting and inventive, with little practical utility. Paul Gaugin's mother's pre-Columbian styled pottery also comes to mind. It was dismissed as barbaric, just as George Ohr was and Palissy must've been.

Dr. Ramirez is so genuinely inauthentic.... & fakey effusive. Yet, Waldemar is so real. Weird.

I understand why he couldn't have used real dead animals for the molds nor the lead glaze, but the difference in shapes and colours was very painfully noticable. Especially when you put the fake plate right next to that astonishing Palissy piece. I really didn't like especially how the colour combination in the forged plate turned out - a motley of shallow, artificial colors.

Funny that everyone on here speaks about real artist... when I saw how sloppy the glaze was put on and how badly the snake mold was made, I thought that this is a bit of a show to amuse us. I like Palissy just as I like Ardmore ceramic pieces... all over the top work. But the result seemed to be made by someone else... 😂
