For the magnetic Batman I remember there was a label somewhere that warned not to attach the figure to household appliances like the fridge for fear of scraping off the paint.😬 C'mon, that was the only place in my home I could stick my figure to!😤

What I came away from this was, "Holy cow! There was a web-spinning Spider-man figure????!!!!" How did I never know about that? I remember the fluid tubes and shooter, but never knew there was a figure too. And I never got those webs to look like they show in the commercial.

I got one of these for my birthday when I was little. I don’t know if I should’ve had what was then 40 year old mego stuff at such a young age(I can’t find most of that stuff anywhere in my house anymore) but I loved the old mego stuff growing up and mego museum was a website I used to love to go on as a little kid. I also had some other mego stuff back then as well such as a carrying case and a fist fighting Batman.

@@BrickMantooth Between that and the Super Powers Batman as my favourite figure of all time. Hadn't realised there were so many variants... wish I still had my Batman, Robin, Superman and Hulk I had as a kid... I do have a 12" Batman now, but he's in need of renovation!

Thanks for another great video on Mego superhero history. I've was lucky to find two versions of the 12" Batman and their boxes. I often find the toy first, then the box! I also have the 12" Robin and the rare 9" version. They have been in my collection for years. Sorry to hear of your unfortunate encounter with that customs agent- what an anal orifice. Keep up the super videos.

I'm guessing some of the appeal was that it was plastic while most toys that got that big often had plushie bodies? Definitely think the magnets add a lot, wish more toys used them.

So did the Tonka hostile takeover super discount plan end up costing me go the marvel and DC licenses? Because in less than three years Kenner would be making the Super Powers Collection. You have to wonder what the mid 80s would have been like with Tonka and Mego being the same company.
@BrickMantooth4 жыл бұрын
Mego had a slew of problems in the early 1980s that resulted in them releasing the license. I wouldn't say the Tonka deal was directly responsible but it didn't help. Mego's going bankrupt in early 1983 was the big one.

The superhero sales weren't the problem but Mego's demise had little to nothing to do with Star Wars, despite the popularity of that narrative.
