The elegant Georgian era 1714 - 1830 was named for the first four English Kings named George. It would be dominated in architecture, by classicism. The rising Whig gentry rejected the creations of Vanbrugh, Hawksmoor and Wren as manifestations of Tory wealth, power and extravagance.
