The community, which is built by Everett-based Pallet Shelter, will house up to 30 people, and the rules will be quite lenient.

I live in one of these units currently. My roomate uses but I dont. I am actively looking for work daily. This got me off the street into a warm bed with food and a shower. Very grateful and hope to be employed soon so I can leave this space for someone else who needs it. Also on my youtube channel there is a video where I show my pallet a little bit and highlight the importance of these things

Yeah nah. This kind of out of touch nonsense is why most people stay on the street or just go to jail for shelter instead. Housing 2 bums in cramped quarters is just bad idea.

The “hate” bias in the script just sucks. It creates more fear of these shelters than it does positivity. These communities work! The occupants have to abide by the rules of the community and the counseling services are in their face 24/7. The hate biased writing left that out.

Salt Lake City started a housing program to get people off the streets, no questions. The program has worked there. We need to break the cycle of addiction, violence and health issues. And for those who say this program is too expensive, just remember how much it costs to jail, Baker Act or admit them to an ER. Your taxes and insurance premiums pay for those. Problems NEVER get cheaper as they get bigger.
@briangarrow4483 жыл бұрын
@@sarbantz Can you cite your sources for that claim? I am willing to believe you if you can back that statement up.
@briangarrow4483 жыл бұрын
@@sarbantz I did do some research on your claim and found that you are partially correct. There have been recorded incidents of “Greyhound” relocations done in SLC and surrounding areas. The program that offers housing up front to street people has been more successful than standard interventions for homelessness but is not a cure all. And I won’t argue with you about fentanyl addiction being more problematic than other drug addictions. Thanks for your response today. These problems didn’t start yesterday and won’t be fixed overnight. Take care and be safe.
@lifewithmapuanatandal Жыл бұрын
@@sarbantz You’re correct: “…it doesn’t mean it is not happening.” I am a "sensitive” born & raised Native Hawaiian. The provisional-government who illegally occupied our islands, are currently the ones making all the laws in Hawai’i, not the Native Hawaiians. One law being: “No one, including Native Hawaiians, can occupy the beaches." And we Hawaiians are not homeless, most of us are Houseless! We’ve been evicted from our own lands, due to greed from corporations, some owned by the provisional-government. Cost of living is one of the highest in the nation. Even though we have families with multiple income-earners living together, the provisional-government makes it impossible for us to qualify for rent or mortgages. Especially when the cost of buying a home can start at $500K+; and minimum wages are still at $7.00-$10.00/hr. You’re correct about the other homeless people being sent to our tiny islands. They may look native Hawaiian, but they are not. For instance, the Micronisians came to our islands, and were guaranteed a credit score of 850; in order to start a new life. Why? Because the same provisional-government, were trying to make amends for destroying their islands. But their gratefulness didn’t last very long, leaving much damages in their tracks. Take tourism for example. It is Hawai’i’s main income, but they pollute and trash our beaches; parks; waterfalls; which eventually poisons our fishing areas. And when we try to educate these, who come to our islands, about how to care for our ‘aina/lands, they sometimes call us “sensitive”. Maybe this is true, but what if someone came to your house, and trashed it, wouldn’t that make you a little “sensitive” too? I support anyone who is doing what they can to help others live in better situations. In hinds sight, these organizations are doing what the provisional-government should be doing for their citizens: “Intentionally, giving them the right to Life; Liberty: and the Pursuit of Happiness”!. We, are the Citizens of this Planet, and We All Deserve this Aloha pono!

It's really a brilliant idea. Cost of tiny homes can be further reduced by using unused shipping containers. Dimension of 20 ft container :- Height 2.39m = 94 inches = 7 ft and 10 inches. Length 5.9m = 232 inches = 19 ft and 4 inches. Width 2.35m = 92 inches = 7 ft and 8 inches. Entire flooring should be beige floor tiles. Not wooden flooring. Why ? Easy to maintain. What should be inside each container ? 1) One single bed frame with one single 4 inch thick mattress + two pillows + single duvet + bedsheet and 2 pillow cases. 2) one large wardrobe with both shelves and hang clothes. 3) one large cabinet with shelves. 4) one bathroom with shower + hot water heater + toilet bowl + wash basin + fluorescent lighting. In the event, someone needs to run to the toilet, it's just inside their container home. Saves time of cleaning the concrete, if anyone has diarrhoea and didn't make it to the shared toilet facilities. 5) one solid wooden table with 2 solid wooden chairs. 6) 3 windows, with iron grille. 7) mosquitto aluminium netting at every window. 8) 2 to 3 fluorescent lighting. 9) two heaters 10) two ceiling fans. During summer, the windows can still be open, mosquitoes won't enter because of the mosquitto netting. 11) part of the container - hang washed laundry to dry under hot sun. That means part of the container roof to be removed. Install iron grille and asbestos roofing. At least, their clothes get dried during rain, winter season. If clothes are dried out in the open, it's highly possible that the homeless may accidentally take fellow homeless clothes. One large clothes hanger to hang their laundry. 12) one shoe cabinet 13) 2 electric plug points - for them to charge their handphone, and boil kettle. ----------- In the tiny container community, a multi purpose Hall (combined of several 40 ft containers). Why ? This is to accommodate 1) dining hall 2) kitchen 3) wash basins 4) several toilets 5) watch TV (on several large TV 50 inch flat screens) 6) computers - open concept. At least 15 computers and printers. The multi purpose Hall should be opened from 7:30 am to 9 pm. Free daily breakfast, lunch, dinner for them. For dinner, more food to be cooked, so that after having their dinner, the balance food to be shared amongst the homeless. This is to allow them to take a plate of food to their respective homes. Hence, it's their supper at their respective container homes. The homeless take turns to prep and cook, clean the entire dining hall including toilets, throw garbage at appropriate place, etc. Those who have solid experience as electrician, plumbing, contractor will be doing the jobs at the tiny container homes. Food, groceries, toiletries should be provided free to each homeless. A control system has to be set up, so that there is no abuse. Another part of the land can be used to grow vegetables, herbs and fruits. Each of these homeless should be given free medical check ups, getting free medical treatment and free vitamin supplements. Who should be staying at this place ? Veterans who have become homeless. They deserve the best. These veterans can also work as security at the tiny homes community.

I love how the newscaster automatically assumes 'homeless people will take advantage' - PETTY. MEAN-SPIRITED. Like the homeless got there because they are lazy, take advantage, criminals by nature. Someone who thinks others are taking advantage probably is the one spying on everybody, counting pennies in the dark of night in their basement, or just plain taking advantage themselves. God forbid someone became homeless through no fault of their own, right? Health crisis, layoff, slumlord.
