@khorne1123 I thought the same until I used the Tula ammo with the same mag, and it worked without an issue. "All things fair". Truthfully, I wish I had the regular box mag. It didn't come with the rifle when I traded an ATI OmniMax AR for it.

The SKS has a longer barrel. It is not as overgassed as the AK. The two guns use totally different gas systems. Plus, the SKS mag is not as large (internally & externally) as an AK mag. Lots of differences between the rifles.

Sks does good will hollow points, for aftermarket mags. They are shorter rds.

@1mrgasgas1 I wish I had the original box mag. I traded off an ATI OmniMax AR for the SKS. It came with the tacti-cool stock and the original stock, but no original box mag. I did find a Chinese box mag for an SKS, but even the local gunsmith couldn't get it to fit. Notice the Tula ammo I used with the same mag had no issues.

You’d have to be smoking crack to pay 500$/1000 for tulammo. Maybe golden tiger for poopy fan stash, but definitely not Tula. That’s 25$ more per case if you can get the 1000 round pack of sealed case Tela Ammo.

I agree with the previous comments. Try with a OEM SKS mag. As far as the light primer strike maybe out of spec primer pocket. It is a new process for PSA making steel case. But possibly just a fluke. I think a higher ammo quantity test is needed.

Partially seated primer, bullet seated too long, or an out of spec case too.

@edwardferdin I wish my SKS came with the original box mag. I picked one up in a trade, and neither I nor the gunsmith could get it to fit. 2nd best option I could come up with is try another 7.62x39 ammo with the same mag. As seen in the video, the Tula ammo had no issues

Not a primer issue. Both times the 1st round fired just fine. Most likely a magazine issue.

@@sr-5568aks are designed for steel case, that’s why the casings are so tapered compared to every other rifle round. I never had a single issue with feeding or being unreliable through both my Ak and sks. Shot sparks out of my sks but that was probably cosmoline in the barrel melting off still

i just got the same ammo i haven't shot it yet im gonna test it tomorrow but i checked it with calipers some ammo i had from before idk what brand bought it a while ago measured length wise 2.19 and aac 2.21 it seems like it is in spec i bought it a few weeks ago im gonna check it in my sks with stock mag and my vska ak

@DrDtastic_ Let me know how it turns out. PSA refunded me for the unused ammo. A few people have PM'd me about issues they had with theirs. Another KZbin review stated the round was under powered by standards.

Thanks Johnny! I sold my AKM247. I have a Yugo SKS. Never fired it. I do have quite a few rounds through my AR47's. 2 are PSA. BTW are the projectiles magnetic?

What's the average, overall length of their ammo? I wonder if it's towards the high end of spec. That might make it hang up in some mags. Also, the SKS is not as overgassed as the AK is. Longer barrel. And they use different gas systems.

@dinwyoming1936 as a rule, 56mm, though all my combloc ammo comes in around 55.70mm. The PSA ammo was scraping the front and back of the mag averaging at 56.00mm.

I would never have an after market junk mag adapted to my SKS. Seen too many failures...just like you had, but would run flawlessly with the factory fixed mag.

I’m wondering, where do you find good Steele ammo for zastava m70 ak? I’ve been looking all over for Wolf or Tula but I’m only finding these 2 in the video

@shawncarter8930 the zastava should take the same steel cased ammo any AKM pattern rifle takes. I have been finding those brands at gun shows and Mom and Pop gun or pawn shops, and especially beware of the ammo scalpers. If you are willing to try brass cased ammo I would recommend ATS 7.62X39 ammunition. I picked up some that were on sale from Optics Planet. If you want to stick with a steel case, try Sterling 7.62x39. The Russian steel cased ammo is definitely drying up since the democommiecrats banned the import.

I'm more interested in the Sabres performance in the accuracy and reliability departments. Especially when compared to the Hornady SST. Since it seems like Hornady isn't producing any more of it. The reason is that is what my Tabuk Sniper is zeroed with.

Maybe it wasn’t a light primer strike and was an out of spec primer that is twice as thick. Guess you would have to dissect it and measure it to see if there’s a difference but if that were able to happen the inner diameter would be less in order for the outer to be in spec. Idk just a thought.

I think that the PSA fmj ammo is just a hair to long for SKS rifles. Tolerance stacking. Save the PSA fmj ammo for AK's. Given the M90 misfire, i sgree that the PSA fmj is practice ammo only.....

@skeetlejuice522. Hated to burst anyone's bubble on this, but nope, not the mag. I showed in the video how the same mag worked ok with Tula ammo, and in a video following those, I tried out another type 7.62x39, and it also worked fine. PSA 7.62X39 ammo, with the exception of their Saber Blade ammo, didn't do well with less than 100 rounds. There was a light primer strike in the vid, and we even had a hang fire off camera. Palmetto State Armory refunded me for the remainder of the ammunition.

I have been shooting 7.62x39 ammo since 1993 when I got my first Ruger Mini-30 then I added a Colt 16 inch Sporter 7.62x39 AR carbine, SIG 556R 16 inch and Bren 2ms are the weapons that I shoot in the caliber because I do not like the short stocks of the AK47. Your test with the SKS you are blaming it on the ammo when you have a Zytel Magazine that is not even the ORIGINAL magazine for the SKS and they have all sorts of issues with Tolerances depending who you get the magazine from and you AUTOMATICALLY Blamed to ammo without trying another magazine or trying to shoot the rifle with the original internal magazine which can be reinstalled on a SKS in about 10 minutes if you know what you are doing. Hard Primer are JUST A FACT of life with 7.62x39 when you shoot ammo from Russia, China, Czech Republic or any of the the Former Warsaw Pac Countries from the Cold War and again you Blamed the Ammo! Since I have been shooting 7.62x39 since 1993 I have always made sure that my RIFLES have EXTRA POWER Hammer Spring to ignite any Primer no matter how hard it is and I never have any issues. It sounds to me that you regrated spending the Money on the Ammo and Plastic Box so you created a situation so Palmetto State would give you a Refund on the ammo and you did! I think that is LOW just because you made an unfair Video with modified weapons that god only knows if they are up to Mil-Spec since AK47 are not supposed to have a Bolt Open function but your did so you must be running the Weapon Tech AK47 Enhanced Bolt Hold Open Follower which is a what all my AK47 mags for my SIG Gen 2 P556R along with extra power hammer spring and in the 12 years that I have owned the SIG 556R Rifle I have never had a Malfunction but I am all to familiar with Magazine Induced Malfunctions on the Ruger Mini-30 and AR15 7.62x39 since reliable high capacity magazines with more than 10 rounds did not become available until 2011/12 almost 20 years after I purchased the weapons.

@af22raptor23503 Not a Zytel, (only by said material magazine,) it's a Tapco magazine that has fed all other 7.62x39 ammunition made around the world with NO ISSUES. The reason I chose the SKS rifle for the test is because it was one of the original rifles chambered in 7.62x39. I even used another type of 7.62x39 ammo to show there were NO ISSUES in the video. If I had the original magazine, I would have left it in. Sadly, when I bought the rifle, the original magazine didn't come with it. The ammunition did run in my AKs except for ONE hang fire that I didn't catch on camera. I have been running AKs and SKS'S since 1983. Thanks for your comment! 🤠🦬🦅🪶⛈️

@@praktikalnurse504 Zytel is the Polymer that Tapco used to make the Magazines for the AK47, SKS and Mini-14 I know because I have about 50 of the 30rd Tapco AK47 Magazines because my Gen 2 SIG P556R came with a Tapco 30rd AK47 and they have worked great but there are some ammo like the 7.62x39 Soft Tip that have exposed Lead Tip that are used for hunting that do not work very will inside Zytel Magazines because the Lead Gums UP the Followers path. Was the Ammo out of Spec maybe and I say maybe because 56.40MM, 56.12MM, 56.06MM and 56.18mm that extra amount of space it really does not matter and that is they you did not have any issues in the Steel Magazine but had issues in the Zytel Polymer Mag. Now if you had shown the same test on the SKS with two different magazines or using the Original internal magazine that was 99.99999% Reliable on the SKS I would have a different Opinion but right now you are not changing my mind and you are actually showing me that you are not as knowledgeable as I am in Firearms. I have been a Small Arms Instructor both as a Civilian and in the Military for over 34 years and I have been a Competitive Shooter for over 38 years plus I have worked in the firearms industry as a consultant on both the Military and LEO side for the over 15 years. For the last 10 years I have owned and operated a Small Custom Firearms Shop that caters mostly to Military and LEO personnel in my area and I have built or upgraded weapon platforms for individuals and also the whole agency.
