A little update to my Exo Terra 90x45x90 paludarium/vivarium housing Corallus hortulanus and a few dartfrogs. Everything has been fine so far.

Great design! I’m currently designing a paludarium for my 90x45x90 and was wondering what sort of maintenance goes into the water section? Water changes, etc?

Hey Tino this is so awesome. Does the water part require a filter? I didn't see any mention of one in the magazine article you did on this

Jake Hansen Hey! Sorry just saw your comment. It has a small pump in there but the amount of water is so small

This is incredible! Besides what you mentioned in the herp hq magazine, you wouldn’t know the names of some of the other plants you used would you? Especially the ground cover like plants such as the ones around the snake or the bushy plant at the top left? I’m building a 4x3 terrarium and so need a ton of plants! Your write up has played a huge part in inspiring my design but I like to have a good idea of where I’m going to end up and knowing the plants I’m going to use helps in that regard. Thanks for any help in advance!

Hey! Thanks a lot I appreciate that! Yes, I do know most of the species but the bushy one you're talking about, I don't know the name of. I ordered it from Aliexpress as seeds. It was said to be like baby tears or something but under a bright light it seems to grow like crazy :D The same plant can be seen in the water also. Next to the snake up right is also a Begonia schulzei. The round leaved one at the bottom left is Hydrocotyle sp. rising up from the water. Then there's a few Microgramma sp., Fittonia sp., Ficus 'quercifolia', Ficus sp. colombia. Moss I mainly used is Taxiphyllum sp. Spiky. At the back is Chamaedorea sp.

Tino Anttila Thank you so much! Baby tears seeds are notorious for not being baby tears. So many plants look like them when they are small and so sellers can get away with selling almost anything.
@TinoAnttila5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, i’ve heard so but still out of interest I wanted to try and to be honest I kind of like it there! At the lower levels of light it does stay in a baby tears-like size.

Tino Anttila It does work really well! I assume that’s the same plant over on the right too, up high? If you ever have some cuttings I would happily pay. I’m on Facebook too (same name as here, Otto Mercer), it was in the Advancing Herpetological Husbandry group that I initially saw this. I appreciate that it may be too much hassle though.

Yeah i could give you some cuttings! I can try to send them when the weather gets a bit warmer here. I’m from Finland and it’s still pretty cold. I’m also trying to make it to sept Hamm and no problem taking some there.

No problems with the tree boa and the frogs? The setup looks amazing.
@TinoAnttila5 жыл бұрын
No problems this far. I have seen the same cohabitation in few zoos now and they have also zero problems. But. When you keep multiple animals in same enclosure there's always a risk.
@davidvancook35535 жыл бұрын
I've got a green tree python....Not sure they've evolved to leave poisonous frogs alone. I don't think New Guinea has the equivalent to any of the dendrobates. Lol I'll stick to a few fish in the water section.
@TinoAnttila5 жыл бұрын
@@davidvancook3553 Yeah! I wouldn't keep them with M. viridis :D I've seen some people to cohabit L. caerulea with viridis tho. Not sure how it went tho
@davidvancook35535 жыл бұрын
I'd rather concentratevon making the best possible environment for m. Viridis than try a multi species setup with him. One day maybe....after a TON more research perhaps. 😆

@@TinoAnttila I checked the stats and the lumens are not anywhere near enough for the plants at this depth according to most sites?
@TinoAnttila3 жыл бұрын
@@Andy-yo3hd yep they’re not enough to reach the bottom well in this height. Especially if it’s heavily planted at the higher parts as this one. I have added a small light to the bottom area
