I flew over Germany 🇩🇪 in a similar Boeing 707 in December 1970. Then hired a Mini van and drove there, staying in Youth Hostels. Berlin was a magic city.

Fun fact: the Cologne Cathedral can hold over 20000 people, just to give a perception. Another one: In WWII the cathedral was hit by 14 bombs during the many bombings of the city center, where it was with it 515 feet (157m) high twin towers often the orientation point for the pilots.

The east will probably need another 25 years to really catch up to the west, not only ecomical but although as a society, that is truly a tragedy but at the same time although impressive how much has changed for better, but of course not always without resentment towards the disruptive changes happening especially in the direct aftermath of reunification.

@@AKAHEIZER The sad thing is that the East had a sort of Wirtschaftswunder of its' own in the '50s, without benefit of anything like Marshall Plan aid, East Germany built world-class products that brought considerable export sales...for a while. Problem was, after 1960 or so all the profits from the state-capitalist VEBs were siphoned off to the police state rather than reinvested to product updates to keep globally competitive and increased production for adequate home-market supply. Result, by the '80s East Germany was synonymous with shoddy outdated goods with zero export potential and obscenely long waiting lists at home.
