I understand that the new Pan Am is really selling very well across the country. I hear very positive things about the new motor in particular. I have to wonder how much more power folks are going to squeeze out if this new motor, but I never heard a complaint of the stock motor. I hear it’s a real beast and comes on strong at higher rpm. Add the great high tech suspension and braking system I see why people are willing to pay the high price tag. I have to wonder what the other competitors think now that Harleys new Pan Americas are selling so well… and to think this is Harley Davidsons first adventure bike! I have to give Harley a awful lot of credit for putting such a big dent in a very competitive well established market. Exact bike and accessories I want as well. Same here, have a 17 SGS and won't get rid of it but want a PA to get into adventure riding. Ran the numbers because I bought all accessories and stage upgrades after the purchase of my SGS. Question is do you get it all done at once or piece it together over time by saving and paying cash? Giving a person buys the bike with TTL (no down payment) for $24K at 6% interest for 5 yrs or buys it with all the accessories at $28K, the total difference in monthly payment is $100 ($460 vs $560) and $235 overall difference in interest. You could get all the accessories covered under the 2 year HD warranty if installed at purchase. As far as motorcycle insurance, get half of the accessories covered under insurance from most insurance companies on basic plan. There are some that will cover all for price increase but is it worth it over the long term? Figure which ones could get damaged and how much to replace compared to the extra $20, $30 more a month payment. So it seems it depends on what you can deal with in a monthly payment on whether to get it all up front or piece it together over time paying cash.
@Broncoride3 жыл бұрын
I already paid for most of the accessories because I wanted it tied into the extra warranty. I use Progressive and they cover accessories up to 3k I believe. Most people will probably put it into the deal and finance it. I did the parts separate, with exception of the two factory options.

The seat looks like it's in the low position. If you see that design element on the tank trim, it's in the low position. You might like it better in high position. Wow. It could be worse. Mine didn’t jack up the price like some dealers have. You are right, due to my height, I lowered it so I wouldn’t be so over the windshield. I have a taller torso, so it might be different for other riders if they are taller in their legs. I’m still playing with it to see which is better.

Came across one dealership who said the special was $17K but out the door with T,T,L would be around $23K with no accessories whatsoever. I have learned a lot by stopping in dealerships over the years and asking pricing. Same game being played by auto dealerships now too.

@@mojomanmurph1925 I watch enough Kevin Hunter, Ray Shefska and Mike Davenport to know the tricks. Dealers have earned their brickbats. Yes there are some that are better than others, but if you get a good deal, chances are others did not. The average profit per car is staggering. They make money in ways a lot of folks never question. Even something as simple as a HD dealer charging for setup. The get reimbursed by the MoCo, so they’re double charging. Doc fees above 100 bucks is all profit. Addendums.. it’s nuts.

The Sportster S isn’t bad. With the Rev Max engine, that bike will do well. I’m pulling for H-D to turn it around too. Hope some of these new offerings will help.

Harley finally puts out a bike with mid set foot pegs and it is priced too high for me. XZQT! There is a lot to like about this bike and a lot I would modify also. With basically no front fender, one must figure some way to protect that expensive radiator. $1000.00 for the muffler and the stainless trim on the end is misaligned? WOW! When a bike's accessory costs become that high, I expect a little more attention to detail.
@Broncoride3 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not perfect but not bad for a first outing. It’s comparable in price to competitors. Some of those accessories are high for sure. Agree on the radiator

Yes, in the Bronx it would be awesome. The new Sportster has a single disc up front. Two inch suspension travel and mid mount controls that bolt to the engine case??? Are you kidding me? Would you stand on case mounted controls? I never heard of such a thing. HD is right back to 'form over function'. Somebody is going to get hurt on that thing.

*Observations* Harley Davison motorcycles has gone electric (failed) and now going "adventure" bike (possible fail too). The company Harley-David (HD) has been trying a lot of different things to survive. Sadly most motorcyclist born these days don't like Harley *_unreliability,_* Harley culture, and Harley NO-customer service. I, personally will never understand the HD sales people that treat potential buyers with snottiness & many times just ignore the possible customer. Happy _Labor Day!_

@@Broncoride No problem. Harley Davidson is trying hard to overcome their _"issues"._ Will the well liked Pan American be a success? Who knows but for the past 4 years (at least) Harley sells are down further every year. In 2020 HD sells were down 17.4%. What I see happening is Harley Davidson slipping into their old ways and quality control, reliability, and customer service getting worse as competition heats up. I have no faith in HD especially after their AMF history. BTW - who owns Harley Davidson today?

Steve from Big Bike Adventures in Australia named my Pan Am Bender. The resemblance is uncanny. lol The stock windshield shield works great for me at 5'8". My special didn't come with the ARH, I wish it did. I'm gonna have to try the Reach seat. Just ordered some highway pegs from Happy Trails, because after 3-4 hours I'm squirming around and needing another position for my legs. I don't know how a taller rider would handle long rides without doing something. I'm probably gonna get the risers. Yes, at 5'8" I think that I need to elevate my arms, plus it brings the bars back at the same time... which might help it not block the TFT screen. Like you, I'm waiting for a bunch of accessories to really start pushing the bike. Have fun and stay safe!
