Marcus Aurelius’s thoughts on death (and by extension, Seneca as well) have stuck around with me since high school and his Meditations have helped me out of my depressive phase, which says a little something about a journal written almost 2000 years ago. @Aurelian603 Yeah exactly. Anglos always take the word "blonde" on Roman documents too literally. In a Mediterranean world, where Scandinavian blondes are basically non-existent, the word blonde refers to a hair color that in Northern Europe would be described as brown. It still is like that in Italy to this day.
@calzabbath8 ай бұрын
Anglo culture has dominated the last 100 years in the West and they have taken their own perceptions of complexion to past societies, but I guess all cultures have that tendency. I'm Argentine so I can pass for a Central European like most people here, but I have noticed in my travels how people from different ethnicities have their own notions when it comes to colour definitions. For my Southeast Asian colleagues I could have been English of French while for the Nordic ones I was definitely Mediterranean. Regarding the video, I think the portrayals are very accurate: a few slightly Germanic traits in the last stages, but the rest mostly and definitely Italic / Celtic in the broad sense of the term.
