My younger brother is a chief engineer for the last 25 years and still he is in the ship and last month also in panama. From 1991 onward he is travelling through panama canal. Hey, I tried to find the answer .. here The is facts: Distance reduced = 13,000Km Avg speeds container ships keeps =25 knots ( Appx 40Km/Hr) So Assume 14 days sailing time. Appx Fuel consumption for 5K TEU full capacity ships keeping the above said speed is 150Tons of bunker fuel per day. Bunker fuel cost Appx 380$ / Tons. So Appx cost of fuel its self = 770,000$ Well it saves 320K $😀 more 14 days shop crew salary and other expenses . Moreover time have bigger price !!!👍🏻
