Driving in Panama is quite strightforward and easy, outside of the city. But there are police everywhere to pull you over for speeding, and they will shake you down for a payoff. You HAVE to use waze and heed warnings posted by others of where the police are waiting. If we went again, we would just get a shutle to Playa Venao from Panama City and then rent a care once there, there are plenty of rentla options. We only needed a car to explore other surf breaks, otherwise you don't need one at Playa Venao. It was a holiday weekend the day we drive back to the airport and lots of construction - we almost missed the flight due to this.
