The first two would be my choice with leaning towards the blues.

I assume these are all the same quality panama straw. Right? (The bleached one kind of being an exception.) I see Grade 3 on the web site for most of JJ's straws. . Where does that grade fit in the overall panama quality scale? I have seen some of your previous videos e.g mentioning Montechristi and its various levels as higher end but expensive.

Grading is just marketing BS there’s no grading. That’s just bullshite created by hat brands to make them seem more appealing. Only monticristi fino Panamas can be graded, and even then.. 99% of the time their just s pile of hat bodies brought in by an Ecuadorian family and even they roll their eyes when you mention fino or superfino or museum quality.. nobody counts the rows or grades them. They’re priced by whoever owns the hat bodies, each person takes a cut. The weavers might get paid $15-25 a hat. The boss of the weavers who sells the bodies to a shop like JJ’s might ask us for $25-100 for super fine bodies..depending on the fineness. It might cost us $250 to block each hat, plus the $100 cost of the body..($350) so we might retail that for $600-700. or if it looks like we could get $1000 for it , that’s what we price it at. Everyone prices them for as much as they think they’re worth, or as much as they think people will spend for it. .. and by the time it gets to you, it can cost $500 or it can cost $5000. It depends on how reputable the dealer is, or how greedy. Many of the “ monticristi” hats selling for $500 online are worth $10. Monticristi is just a city. That doesn’t make it a “fino” which most folks don’t understand. Basically, the grading thing is a joke.. designed to occupy the minds of consumers and get them interested in the higher priced hats.. and to rationalize horrific prices. The other thing folks don’t realize is the tighter the weave, the hotter the thing is.. it’s so tight that the crown holds air like a suction cup when you put it on the counter brim side down. They don’t breathe, they’re hot. And you can sweat through a $2500 hat in a few years.. but it can also be a few months or a few days.. just like a cheap hat. When it’s got sweat stains after a week’s use.. and you just wasted $2500, you’ll rethink your next hat purchase.
