I was born in Panama, but I came to the USA when I was in my 20s I'm now almost 60 and planning on moving back home. I brought my mother to live with me since she could no longer live by herself, and she's now deceased going on 2 years now. We went home to visit some years ago and we went to a restaurant in Colon to eat, I understand the culture down there because I'd lived there. The waitress saw us at the table and passed by like 2 times and didn't even come to greet us nor to take our order not even a glass of water or nothing. Then came in a couple and the same waitress went straight to their table and greet them and served them, as we're still waiting. I did felt some type of discrimination going on that's what I take from it. They were white Spanish we're African American so that's why we was ignored. I ask the waitress to speak to a manager she got him and I told him how I was treated and that I'm leaving this restaurant and take my dollars where's appreciated I told my mother we're not staying here let's go where we'll get better service and we left. Trust me they're good and they're bad in every place. Panama is very peaceful and relaxing but you'll still deal with disrespectful people no matter where you go. Like you said Jackie Lange, you just have to go with the flow. I will say there's more good, humble people than bad upitty people that believe their better than you. I do overlook those types of people.

I'm surprised this happened in colon since the majority of people living in Colon are people of color with a lot of African Americans.

@@PanamaRelocationToursSome colored Spanish people prefer to treat white Americans people better than the colored people at their restaurants., I've lived it and seen it many times. But I've learned to live with this.

Janet, I love your perspective. Former full time RVer (flowing also required) and current trustedhousesitter. I will be following in your footsteps in Panama before/if settling in one spot. I would love to ride the Diablo Rojas with you, my treat!

I can’t wait! 50 more work days and then I’m FREE!!! I’ll always love you, Texas, but it’s about time for this girl to roll. This was one of my fave videos, but all are helpful and much appreciated. My first 15 days will be in Chitré, and if my head doesn’t completely explode from the weight of all of the great location options, I’ll be surprised. Hehe

This video is EXCELLENT!!! Many good points especially about greetings. At first I initiated the greeting while on my walks but they quickly greeted me first. They are basically shy but so appreciate our efforts in learning Spanish.

Great video and positive topic. I especially enjoy someone that is doing what I intend to do/be. Single woman traveling around and enjoying the country. I am coming in April and at present I am waiting for my Passport to come back! Why in the world does it take longer to renew here in the U.S. than it does there? Baffling. If I don't get it by the end of next week I will have to drive to New Orleans to do it in person, since I am leaving for Mexico March 21.

Culture in Panama is family oriented. Who doesn’t get use to that, is best to consider else where. I feel that when you move to a different country regardless where it is, you have to “adapt” to that culture, and respect the culture of that country. Adapt is the key. I also will say that don’t make comments saying they don’t value time in Panama. I will say there are a lot of people who time isn’t that important; I am sure some will know that be on time is important. I know some people in USA that are irresponsible when it come to be on time. I feel that irresponsible people could be anywhere. I feel that for some people be on time is not important, but not everyone is like that though.

I can’t expect to be in another country and be upset they don’t speak my language. I have a choice of learn the language spoken in that particular country or use a translator. I feel everyone is smart enough to learn other language, at least the basic to get by.

What is Diablo Rojo, a drink?, or the buss ride?
@PanamaRelocationTours Жыл бұрын
a diablo rojo is what the bus is called if it's an old school bus converted to public transportation. Colorful paintings all over the bus and like a disco inside.
