Lots of skepticism about the AVC codec. Keep in mind the camera provides uncompressed 8-bit 422 output through HD-SDI and HDMI, which you can record into whatever higher-quality codec you like, provided you have purchased a portable recorder to dot hat.

As to your criticism that the Micro4/3 lens system is not compatible with many lenses, the reality is that it's actually quite the opposite. With relatively inexpensive adapters, virtually any lens on the market today can be used with the AF100, including PL-mount cine lenses.

on a video here and a google search with there adapter you can use 35 mm prime lenses since the camera is very very similar to one which is just awesome!

Suppsedly it is doing something very different than how the GH1 handles getting 1080p form a 24p sensor and they say flat out "NO ALIASING". Now, the gh1 m1080p aliasing is really not that bad at all compared to a 7D so if this completing fixes it and rolling shutter... I'm sold.

24MB current AVCHD codec actually looks better than old P2 DVCProHD codec because of more efficient coding. Previously, processors could not handle the coding, but that isn't an issue now. Micro 4:3 chip has more real estate than the 7D. "Micro" designates that the projection distance is different than the full 4:3 design. On the AF100, the lens width is halved...so a 25mm dslr lens mounted in it would actually be 50mm on the AF100.

Check out the Kipon EOS to MFT adapter with built in aperture control on the Panasonic AG-AF100 with the Canon 50mm F1.8 lens. The adapter has no electronics so it has no auto focus.

cine lenses are closer to matching 4/3 then they are the 7D, in 35mm movie cameras the film passes the gate from top to bottom, hence about 24mm width, not 36mm

@bunkofurko in fact the "tattoo series" of the red epic is released right now as well as the upgraded 4.5K 800asa MX sensor for the old red 1. 13.5T-stops. eat that arri. along with a modular body design that arri simply doesnt have there is no doubt that red is way beyond any other camera manufacturer. first features are shot on the upgraded red sensor as well.... so ... reality upgrade.

I would have much preferred the aps sized sensor, my guess is they did that to keep the price down at the sensor size they are using.. but the available micro 4/3 sensor lenses are too slow to give us the selective focus we're after.. that being said... auto focus and those features are not for filmmakers... I'm going to buy this camera, I'm going to buy a bunch of FAST manual focus lenses for 35mm still cameras, they will give me the selective and I'll have a superb camera.

agreed. with every word. especially when things like the red scarlet ist 'round the corner and promises 3K for a reasonable price ( resolutions with sensitive sensors like red's for these prices never existed before..) i'd ask myself why i would spend about $6k for a niche product that might "bend" physics by sensor and by codec... i mean.. 3 years ago that would have been amazing but now it just pulls up an eyebrow.
