Panasonic DAT overview

This video was initially intended to be a mock-up for future videos. Circumstances forced me to finish it as is for an AES Zoom meeting. It didn't come out too bad, and addresses some of the common issues faced by both archivists, technicians and format fans.

Hello, I have a SV DA10 and error rate is between 0-30 approximately when playing. Is it well serviced then? There are rare peaks around 50-60. Tipically 0-30.

You need an oscilloscope, for starters

I'd have to see it, but maybe your problem is pinch roller pressure - if the pinch is hard it may have shrunk - and those machines have clutch issues.

@@CharlyGrand without a scope, it's impossible to know. There are many more things that can cause errors than "just" the heads.

@@Audi.RS3 hard to find. You can do it with a known good tape. The tricky part is PG delay, but if you set the beginning of the envelope to the swp transition it will be very close
