how do I like this video twice? Finally someone who loves M43 I can't afford the camera but as a G7 user buying M43 lens now makes sense 👍

So glad you did a GH5 Mark II review...I sold my GH5 and G9 and have been regretting it. Looking forward to picking up a Mark II or GH6 when available.

Thanks for a balanced, informative review of the GH5ii. I was thinking of picking up a second GH5, but I might consider this one instead. Your insights are very helpful as I consider the options. I really appreciate the effort you’ve made to review the camera!

Great Video (as usual). There are quite a number of new features that are making the GH5 M2 hard to beat at this price point. Hard to believe that the video quality could have been improved over an already impressive camera, but they did it! The ability to livestream is a total gamechanger - well done Panasonic!

The 10-25 is an amazing lens and reason enough to into MFT. Add the announced 25-50, assuming it's similarly great and a new GH6 and MFT is in great shape again (for video).

m4/3 has so many great lenses! For instance I love the new pro f/4 12-45mm. Weather sealed, optically excellent and compact. The thing is tiny, precisely for what you'd want in a rugged setup for landscape.

I wonder if adding phase detection pixels on the sensor may decrease slightly the image quality on relatively small and dense sensors like this (even more so if the resolution is going to increase in the future.....)
@ChrisRoutledge

Olympus has been using a hybrid phase detect autofocus system since the original OMD-EM1 in 2013(?), so I'd say if that's a problem it's not insurmountable.

That sounds amazing. As a film photographer, it would be overkill for me though. I'll stick with my Canon EOS 90D for my digital photography and video. My photography money will go towards a Leica M camera (still trying to decide if I should go with a mint M5 from 1975 or a new M7 0.85 still in stock at my favorite Leica store). If I did want to focus on video, it seems, Panasonic would be pretty much impossible to ignore.

I recently moved over to the Fujifilm X-S10 from the Lumix G80. I think the X-S10 *is* like a G80, except with an X-T4 APS-C sensor and better autofocus. The problem with Panasonic, I think, is that they have this “not invented here” syndrome going, which is why they persist with the contrast detect autofocus. I still have my G80. Not going to part with it, because it’s such a good video camera, but I feel a bit frustrated with Panasonic. They are such a big company. They have a good design philosophy. They innovate like crazy. And then, suddenly, in key things like autofocus they become incredibly conservative. I am glad for the GH 5 II though, and look forward to learning more about the GH6. Since I'm more of a photographer than a video guy, I also look forward to a replacement for the G9.

The GH5 is still a fantastic Camera. The new GH5 ii looks great and adds many small and important things for the usability. For those who needs to work with 2 or more Cameras (like me) is a very appealing option. I’m using the GH4 and GH5 since 2017 and I can see myself using the GH5 ii + GH6 for the next 4 years. They are affordable: GH5 ii + GH6 = ~ 4200 Euros! The Sony A1 (fantastic Camera) costs 7300 Euros!

I very much doubt we will see a PDAF from panasonic. I think its solely a business issue. It would canibalize their other cameras, which are all DFD based and it would totally kill their sales from those cameras. Everybody would just start buying the PDAF panasonic camera. I actually think thats the reason.

I agree, about the phase detect I have a G9 and a Panasonic Leica 100-400, I shoot(attempt to shoot) birds in flight. I end up using my little OMD Em5 MkIII, and I end up with more keepers from the Olympus every time. I do think the 2021 firmware helped a lot, and you can't beat the video features and menu system Panasonic has, even on old bodies.

Can you check if the GH5 Mark2 is able to output HDMI and USCB while showing the image on the LCD screen? For example with the RS2 and a Ninja V or the Raveneye. Now I'm using the GH5 and as soon as I plug in the HDMI and the usbc the LCD Screen turns black. Would love to hear from you

@@thewalkingvloggingman7152 I know. I'm generally a manual focus person too. But certain jobs, it can be near impossible to pull manual focus due to how unpredictable situations are. (e.g. Events). I know it can be done manually, but it takes experience. More and more people are shooting alone these days. Amateurs who owns a TikTok or YT account don't hire ACs.

Yeah no. The thing that made the GH5 great was its performance to price ratio and relatively small size. Unless their overall spec is amazing then I feel it’s only a few years before they go the way of Olympus. It’s hard to make a living in small niche market.
