@stringermedia58757 жыл бұрын
I have been using this camera since it came out over my GH4 and my first camera GH3. I use this in a cage and it has served me well as a stringer. I mainly changed to a bridge camera after first using the FZ1000 because I got tired buying $700 lenses and because I don't have time to be switching lens or carrying them around. And the results are the same if not better as I shoot only video. I would ignore negative reviews from youtube channels because I don't believe in nitpicking. It is an upgrade of the FZ1000 and all issues from the FZ1000 have been fixed except for the fact that it still isn't weather proof. The lens cap fits fine in my FZ2500. Your suppose to pinch the pressure buttons while putting on. You may have received a bad cap?? This camera is 100% comparable to GH4. Actually it is better in my opinion.

Stringer Media, Hi, I have a question if you don’t mind. I read your comment and I know what you mean by tired of switching lenses. I’m considering buying either the Fz1000 or Fz2000 for the same reason. My question is: since you used both cameras, do you think it’s worth it to buy the newer model? Or is the Fz1000 good enough? I like to take pictures a lot, but I’m mainly interested in it for video and light weight travel camera( compared to my DSLR). Thanks

Hi, does this camera overheat like sonys when filming? I´m looking for a camera to film rugby matches (but trying hard not to go for a camcorder). I will not be using 4K but whatever is underneath...full HD? Do you think this would be thE camera to film sports instead of a camcorder? (trying to avoid rolling shutter, moiree...I don´t know how to call the horrible distortion around high pace moving people. I have read the reason for this in cameras is the CMOS sensor while the amcorders have CCD sensors and more focusing points and the focusing isnt only contrast focusin...something like that). Much love. You are good with your videos, definitively. suscribed.

Great review. I am too one of those commenters here who have a FZ300. It's an amazing camera an it's really like that description you gave to this FZ2000/2500: amazing for video but less good for photography. It's too my definition and it seems like it's becoming the trend for all these Lumix bridge camera. What i say too is, from my perspective, FZ300 was an enhanced version of FZ1000 but with a smaller sensor and now i feel that every enhancements made on FZ2000 was made starting from FZ300 but with a bigger sensor. They are physically almost the same... even buttons, grip and overall design looks the same. I would have love too if my FZ300 had this tripod hole on center and away from that opening to battery/SD card. I'm also too more interested in video than on photo but as a begginer i need both... and normally on low-light conditions, or indoors... about dance stuff and sometimes from distance. FZ300 is not perfect but was the one my money could buy and i had to choose very wiseful. Those Lumix bridge cameras are a great choose and choice for that. As always, i love see your videos talking about this stuff. Keep that good work... and show more of your circus and dance projects (what you do is similar with my stuff)... it's inspirational!

I can assure you that I have seen some stunning Photos taken with the fz300 in various Forums, there is some folks doing utterly fabulous macro insect shots with it also, its not about Sensor size in my opinion, its how one can be creative, study to get the best out of `any` camera, sure the smaller Sensors are more prone to noise in low light, but hey, lightbulbs are inexpensive, lol, all you do is work around the problems of the smaller Sensors, I have the fz2000, sure its not perfect, what camera is? I love it, best camera I have ever owned so far, and I have had many over the years, I am sure the fz300 will serve you well, its a totally super piece of equipment, happy snapping and videoing my friend!!

The FZ300 is not in the same ball-park - I know orginally looked at the camera and ended up running with a FZ1000 instead. For me the FZ1000 was a 2nd camera for me to use while I wait to obtain the what will be my primary still camera. I wanted something great for video, with the Mic input etc; Sounds like will not look at upgrading any time soon to the FZ2500 though can see the advantages if don't have a camera yet.

Great review. Much appreciated. I've had the FZ1000 for a couple of years and love it, and just got the FZ2500 for work last week. In many ways, it feels like a completely different camera and I'm surprised at how much I have to learn despite owning it's predecessor. One example is that I wanted to film something in slow motion and after several minutes, came to the conclusion that it didn't shoot at as fast a speed as the FZ1000 (120 fps), but after watching this review, I seem to be wrong about that. I'm going to need to sit down with it for a few hours and figure it out more. I mostly do video work, but also needed a camera for photos.

I have a GH4 and when I travel I use my 14-140 mm f3.5 to 5.6. Normally I have an ND filter and polarizer. On a recent trip to Jamaica, I forgot my filters. What a pain! I had to shoot my daytime videos at ridiculous apertures. I was also looking for more reach. On a boat trip on the Black Water river there were crocs and neat birds. I could have used the FZ2500. After your review though, I'm thinking I just might might buy the longer glass. I don't know. I'll keep pondering until my next trip because the GH4 does everything I need for my daily work. Oh man, don't ask _me_ if this camera is good for stills, I'm totally sold on that function as well. I guess you're talking from the true professional point of view. I myself am coming from a NIKON D5300 which is a really good entry level DSLR stills camera with OK HD1080 video. So, for me the switch to the "all in one" solution like FZ2000 is a step up, and yes, even for stills. Not that the quality of stills is/should be better in any way than on the Nikon, but the combination of everything you've mentioned about the camera - and I'll point out the zoom specially here, the FZ2000 does an in overall better job for me. I take it with me and have it for both stills and videos, I can zoom in like hell and that lens isn't that bad for what I need it for. I also like the bulky shape and have no problems in holding it in my hands for a long time, I'm fine with that. One more (sneaky) reason I don't care too much if the FZ2000 isn't _that_ good for stills, is that I also own a Lumix GX8 which, when equipped with a good lens and because of it's larger sensor (albeit still 20MP just as the FZ2000) is my solution for better photos when needed. I've got it with a very capable kit zoom lens but I also bought a used wide angle prime (14mm) by Panasonic - and I'm at home with that so far, when I need the angle and some nice landscape photos. The GX8 is also on the heavier side for it's size but I love that as well, it's sturdy and wonderful to hold. I've just finished a corporate photo shoot where I planned to use the GX8 but ended up doing everything on the FZ2000. Some stuff should be zoomed in, some shots needed the classic 85mm portrait focal length to start with and, I just had it on the tripod and either changed the settings or amount of zooming, and I still got some very nice results. It's more that I ended up realising I needed stronger softboxes and maybe should get me some speedlights as well, but that's another story and for the times I get more jobs like this. Jacques, I find your reviews to be excellent and with the right dose of judgement, always pointing that it's "only" your opinion, it's always a good tempo in your videos so even non-native-english audience can follow, a true shame you don't have more subscribers. Peace!

What is the manual focus like during a zip zoom? If you auto focus on a far distant subject at maximum zoom, then switch to manual focus mode and fast zoom out to wide and back in again at close up, does the lens maintain focus throughout the range and hold it at the wide angle end? Hello Sean. no. I got rid of it. For video, it still holds well with the rest. You can check some of the sample footage I have on my channel. For photos it is a different story. As the review said, the IQ of the lens is just mediocre. If you need an all in one, you might want to consider some of the blogger cameras. They have really evolved, give spectacular video and are stunning at stills. Models I would consider are the Sony ZV1, their RX line. The Canon G7X mark 2 or 3 (I love that camera) Check out my review on that thing. It is a wolf in sheep's clothing. If you do not mind an interchangeable lens, the latest Fuji XS10 is amazing. I am reviewing it now. hope that helps.

@@JacquesGaines thanks for your message, I really appreciate your viewpoint. I have been considering the FZ2000 specifically for video. It seems Panasonic really include video features like frame timestamp for syncing footage, the autofocus on slow zoom, and Wi-Fi connection for monitor. It seems everyone else has a priority for photography first. The extra work I can do in camera saves me editing time. I just don't see any other dslr that comes close to video settings like built in ND filters. If it's solid for video work I can suffer the lower IQ for photography. My focus is totally video and coming from a graphic design/photography background I feel more comfortable with a dslr and that fits in a small backpack with my mini2 drone and insta360 kit. Your video work impressed me, despite the FZ-2000 reviews saying poor in low light, your circus footage in low light was wonderful crisp and in focus video. Again thanks on your input, I really should have clarified my focus was 99% video and 1% photos.

Good Review . I am an a beginner in filmmaking. I have the Lumix G7 and also the FZ 2000. the latter,seemed shockingly large in comparison. Both are great cameras. On the FZ I really find the built in ND filter extremely useful. ( No ND filter built into the G7) and I like the variable frame rates. The slow motion is very good. (120fs 1080p on PAL). Both G7 and FZ 2000 are very good for doing timelapse,even making it into a video in camera,ready to export. As for photo's, it is a big step up from the other bridge cameras I've owned ( Fuji/Olympus). I considered the Sony RX 10 m3, but it just didn't seem as ' COMPLETE' as the FZ 2000.I have had the G7 for 6 months and the FZ 2000 for about a month so I am still learning.

The Panasonic LUMIX FZ2500 offers a hybrid mix if photo and 4K video capture features that make up its backbone. The FZ2500 is built around a large 1-inch 20.1 Megapixel sensor and bright 20X LEICA VARIO-ELMART F2.8-4.5 lens. Video professional will enjoy features like “CINELIKE D” and “CINELIKE V” for cinema-like gradation, V-Log L upgradability, time code, live HDMI output (4:2:2/8 bit or 4:2:2/10 bit), lens ND filter controls, custom video GUI, and a system frequency selectable from 59.94 Hz (NTSC), 50.00 Hz (PAL), or 24.00 Hz (CINEMA). Combining all that with edit worthy MP4 (LPCM) and MOV, bit rates extended up to 200 Mbps (ALL-Intra) or 100 Mbps (IPB), and no recording duration limit, and it’s a video producer’s dream camera. Traditional photo enthusiast benefit from all this 4K video prowess because Panasonic’s 4K technology has changed photography for the better with new creative tools like 4K PHOTO, Focus Stacking, and Focus Stacking built-in. I traded up from the Fz 1000 to the FZ 2000 (UK), and can make the following observations: Basically the same 1" Sensor as the FZ 1000, The image quality for still photography is equal and more than satisfactory. The extra 80 mm does have some impact, although 600 mm would've been nice. The extra optical zoom extends the range to a very usable 960 mm and still returns a clean and usable JPEG. The fz2000 expands upon the already excellent control interface and user experience of its predecessor. Function buttons, dials, touchscreen adjustments all enhance Panasonic's useability. The 4K photo functions are a huge advance on the FZ 1000: pre-burst, full function bracketing and stacking open up a whole new possibilities for every kind and style of photography. ND filters are obviously a `major` new feature. I'm not currently using the camera for video, but I plan to do so extensively in the future, and it's nice to know that the FZ 2000 is cutting edge in that respect. It is superb for bird shots, `very` high hit rate, superb fast focusing system, Bottom line: if you buy the FZ 1000, you will love it and never know or care what you're missing. If you buy the FZ 2000, you will be thankful that you did it every time you access its advanced features.

Jacques, I am very impressed by the low-light shots you are showing here. I have the GH4, GX8, Metabones XL with Sigma 18-35/F1.8(which is unfortunately not so usable for video due to the clicking servo motor noise during auto-focus) and still suffer during low-light shooting. Would you say the FZ2000's low light capability is as good or better than the Metabones speed booster solution for the GH4/GX8?
@JacquesGaines7 жыл бұрын
Not. not necessarily. I will probably be clarifying the shots I showed in the video for the following reason. These "low light shots" are a tad misleading. With my experience in these circus shows, I have developed a workflow where I meter the subject and do not care about the ambient. So subject, the most important part of the image, is sharp as a tack. All my "LOW LIGHT" shots I show, overall, are dark, but subject wise they are actually quite bright. Some shots are relatively low light but I should have actually grilled the camera with actual low lumens to see what would happen. So to answer your question, using a bit of tried and true logic where larger sensor equals better low light performance, I would stick to the speed booster and the four thirds sensor GH4 or GX8. With some experience with the product, the results will be much better.

Really like the scope of your videos. I need a 4K video camera but I also would like a good stills camera. Most of the reviews rate the Sony RX10-IV over the FZ2500, but do complain about its price and missing the articulating LCD and built-in ND. Have you used/tested the Sony RX10-IV? If I could afford two cameras I would get a Panasonic UX180 for video and a Fijifilm XT-3 with the kit kens for still photos. I see a year ago you recommended the RX10-II instead of the IV. Would you recommend the Sony II over the FZ? Thanks.

Still recommend the RX10 mark2 over the FZ2500. FZ optics are really so so. But you might want to think of the XT3 option. Its video options are borderline cinema quality. If you are not stuck on getting the superzoom option then the XT3 with even the kit 18-55 is a no brainer IMHO

Hi Jacques, with the release of the Sony RX10 mk 4 i've been keen to run a comparison with between it and the FZ2500. I'm a stock shooter so the stills quality is important. I also want to add stock footage to my portfolio. Unfortunately once again, there has to be a compromise. Better lens, but no ND filter for the Sony. Worse lens, but ND filter for the Panny. I guess the extra reach (600mm)and the better IQ of the Sony will swing it their way for me and I will have to screw one of those annoying ND filters on the lens. Great review and thanks for the frank and informed opinions.
@JacquesGaines7 жыл бұрын
remember. The less the zoom range, the better the optical quality. You might want to think of the RX10 mark2. It has built in ND and excellent photo quality. 1198 at B and H . The mark 2 is also the only lens with the fixed f 2.8 aperture all the way through. As for zoom range, consider using your feet?
@andrewbalcombe13387 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the reply Jacques, I want the range of a 600mm too :-) critters often won't let you creep up on them to within 200mm range. I know, because I have a canon 60D with a 70-200 2.8. But the canon's rear screen is a pig for video, and I much prefer an evf. The Sony RX10-4 seems like an all in one stock and travel package with extra reach for wildlife. I will have to test the lens, however, to see how sharp it gets at 100 percent. And see how the back illuminated sensor handles. Thanks for the recommendation. If I didn't have something in that range I think it would have been an excellent alternative. Cheers for now!

What button do you press to switch in between variable frame rates while recording? Also, do you notice that videos may come out with a lot of noise when filming in slower motion? Because I have and I am not sure why
@JacquesGaines7 жыл бұрын
You need to go into the menu and near the variable frame rate choice there is the choice of slow/quick. Before doing that, make sure that you have a frame rate that accepts VFR. They do not all have it. Once that is done. Once you press record you are in normal recording. If you want to speed up or slow down, it is the two buttons F1 and F2 (on the side of the lens) that control fast or slow look. As for VFR causing noise, well at this price range, it is what you get. A lot of artifacts really. I still stick to my theory that at these prices slo mo will always kind be mediocre
@ryanwilliams48927 жыл бұрын
For me, F1 and F2 are slow zoom t and slow zoom w. I picked a VFR and turned slow/quick motion on, but it's not letting me switch in between frame rates while recording, only zooming in and out with those functions

It’s big but I guess Red cameras are Titanics. In the DSLR world, any lens over 400 regardless of being 2.8 to 5.6, those lens are the size of small bazookas. I’m seriously considering this camera... simplifying my life from multi-lens 35mm dslr, multi-lens med, large format film cameras, and a plethora of video cameras over the last two decades.

excellent follow up review, I sent mine back as I'm more a stills man, and I find the fz300 does everything I need and even though the fz2000 has a bigger sensor the fz300 images are sharper and the 2000 lacks the focal range but if your a video person its a good option and though I questioned you in your last I've been able to test rx10iii and much better iq, all in all I think the fz2000 is a bit of a disappointment unless your solely a video shooter

FZ300 is discontinued right? And it´s the other one without the 30 minute video shut down right?

Jacques, your email also saved me from purchasing the FZ2000/2500. I shoot no video and am exclusively concerned about the quality of stills. I currently use a Sony RX10ii, and if Sony glass is better, I'll stick with Sony.

Thanks for your review. I'm a pro videographer who shoots usually with 3 cameras. I had purchased 3 FZ1000s when software came out (Plural eyes) that could sync sound in post. That allowed me to dump my HEAVY pro video camera for something a lot, lot lighter. In fact, I could buy 3 FZ1000's for less than one of those video cameras and use separate sound recorder. I loved the FZ1000s right out of the box. Like the bridge camera fixed lens. I'm usually working really fast and don't hve the luxury of changing lenses. I destroyed one of my FZ1000s falling in a swimming pool on a shoot and it was not fixable so I bought an FZ2500. Love the upgrade. Especially the ND filters and the headphone jack. Still learning about this camera but I love it.

I'm surprised to see the quality of your low light footage. I'm very disappointed with the low light on this camera. Yes I know it's only a 1inch sensor but the fact that there is what I consider unusable noise in a well lite office at ios400? Is my camera broken or am I missing something? If I tried to use my fz25000 shooting that dark circus scene I would dare say it would just be a mushy pile of noise. Any ideas or should i return it?
@JacquesGaines7 жыл бұрын
Are you in AI mode or any sort of automatic mode? Also, with this camera, everything is pretty well usable all the way to 800. You are not the first person telling me this. I got the same problem with one person on the FZ1000. What is going on? Please let me know a bit more about your settings.

Wow fast reply thanks Jacques! I'm shooting all manual. Shooting wide open at f2.8 at 4K25p (pal area), have tried picture profiles Standard, cine-d, cine-v etc. I have even tried outputting 10bit 4:2:2 to my Atomos shogun inferno that I use with my Panasonic DVX200 and it's still a mushy pile of noise. Sure I can de noise in post but you loose sharpness. I brought the fz2500 to be a B roll camera to the dvx200 but so far I'm not happy to use it on a shoot as the image quality is bad. I can even see the pixel noise on the LCD before I press record!

Something is definitely wrong. I am shooting manual, in cam memory card with STANDARD as a profile. Something is wrong here

Jacques Gaines Photography, Very interesting! Wish we lived in the same country, could be interesting to take your and my camera out and shoot the exact same scene and settings and compare the images. It's such a pity as I really really want to love this camera. It has absolutely everything you could ever want for a decent shoot built in! Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it and your very informative videos!

You say the fZ2000 has not as good glass for image quality as the FZ1000? Haven't seen yet any comparicon for stills. Seems I will stick with my FZ1000

Stick to it. Stills on both are great but you are not upgrading with this camera for stills

It is a good camera for this but if you blog, you might want to thing of other lower weight models. G7X mark2, Canon M50 is a dream with a larger sensor. etc

Did you ever figure out how to use the lense cap?? It is so easy and locks on very strong. You have to use your fingers to pinch lens in front of cap. I never saw you do this. For a camera guy you should know this simple task. I said to myself "this guy is stupid. He doesn't really know to pinch the cap pinchers??"
@JacquesGaines7 жыл бұрын
+Rob Cardena To think that I would not pinch the front is insane. But on KZbin anything can happen. Yes I pinched the front. I believe that my cap is defective or everyone has low expectations of how well a cap should hold. Mine holds but not well at all. But you are free to still think I am stupid. . . he he

Thank you Jacques for this vid! Been eagerly waiting since you announced it :-) I use this camera for short films. I feel that it's more of a "filmmaker" fixed lens camera. And i prefer fixed lenses, because that is what works for me. Also since it has built in nd filters its perfect for my needs. I will invest in the v-log upgrade a bit later. here's a clip of when i first got the camera. right out the box. settings were auto everything kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3a1ZJyqndSIoJY and heres a clip of a short film work in progress kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpmsfYCQiZ58r5o
