We're a wedding film company and have shot the last couple weddings with it and LOVE it!! But keep in mind we were using the GH5 before. Honestly, just like all the cameras there are pros & cons. The "ottofocus" is now actually usable in certain situations, but yes, doesn't really compare to Canon/Sony. BUT ill take Panasonic's IBIS all day over Sony/Canon! For run and gun shooting it's a must, allowing us to not depend on the gimbal ALL DAY long. Then for the image, we shoot in V-Log and get a fantastic image & color that rivals the others cameras out there. And last, the low light, NO ONE is talking about! It is actually REALLY good! I can shoot all the way up to 12800 ISO with the internal NR turned on and the image is still good. Again, not quite as good as the A7S, but for a M4/3 camera with amazing IBIS and Image quality, not to mention glass you can actually afford. It really is a beast of a camera!

One thing I always forget, I started with an HVX200 from Panasonic and when they came out with the GH4 I was supper happy, but at the time it was great pro quality in a smaller sensor but at a great price. Now we have decent quality but similar to all its competitors un the same price range with a much smaller sensor the competitors, no decent auto focus and the price is only slightly less.... For what they are offering this needed to be a $1600 camera

Totally agree man! The GH4 was revolutionary *at the time.* I remember being sucked in to the Canon 5Dmkiii hype but then I saw Andyax post a comparison between the 5D3 and the GH4 and I was totally mind blown. I felt like Panny offered BETTER quality and specs for a much lower price. That was why I fell in the love with the GH cameras. Now we have the GH6, which on its own is an incredibly powerful camera, but compared to the market it doesn't do anything too crazy spec wise, other than amazing anamorphic settings and super high res modes. All this to say I think this camera would have blown us away 2 years ago and maybe at $2000 max.

Best review so far lol. They needed to make a splash with the GH6 (like the GH5 did), this was only a ripple. Is alien tech like a special eVND on top of the sensor that goes from 0 to 6 stops hard to engineer? Or kidnap the Olympus engineers to implement phase detect on their cameras? Even a 2017 Canon 200D/SL2 does better with AF.

Great points! And I def agree on the splash vs ripple. This camera has some incredible specs but I think it came too late or something, not many people seem to care that much about it even thought it is a solid camera overall.

I wanted so bad to get a Gh5. I rented it. LOVED THE ibis. But couldn’t with the autofocus. I would drop 2200 on the 6 if it had decent ottofocus.

I shoot, live theatre, concerts and dance shows. Initially, I found the auto-focus very good except in low light or when the light dipped to change scenes. When I started using the focus limiter the low light problems disappeared. Yes, setting the focus limiter increases my set up time but I can live with it. I also have two GH5s and a GH5 ii. I love powering the GH6 and the GH5 ii with the USB-C. If the cable gets knocked out or the USB battery runs out, they switch seamlessly to the internal battery. I wish my GH5s would do that. I power them with a USB battery and a dummy battery.

I got my GH6 for about 1100 Euros new; so, it was worth it. IBIS and C4k 120fps are the two features that make it for me. The 100MP handheld photo mode is a huge bonus and does way better than anything else I've seen, especially for the price!

I don't ever use autofocus, and I'll never use DR Boost to be honest. I passed down my GH5 to somebody recently then I found a GH6 "open box-like new" on Amazon for $1999 and...it just seemed worth it. The amount of money I will make from gigs on/with it, it just seemed worth it.

@@TohPhimmasenh Of cameras ? Yeah. 5DMK2/3/4 owner, C500MK2 user, BMPCC4K owner, 6K user, RED user, Alexa Mini user, Sony A7S3 user.. I've tried and used almost everything. GH4 - GH5 - GH6 however, make filming way easier and faster tho...for various reasons. C500MK2 has been pretty great tho recently, I can't front.

@@TohPhimmasenh GH6, is light. It's nimble. Can fit in small places, many people don't notice it, the subject in front of it doesn't freeze up or get tense. The GH6 also has great battery life. ND filter ? I have one on the front of my lens. 4/3 sensor has been great for pulling focus, a lot of it is already just in focus. Dynamic range ? Meh, I have a colorist. Low light ? I don't shoot in low light much. If I do, I throw a 1.2 on, and it does the job. GH6 is solid ! Not perfect but, no camera is. And I'm glad it's not, keeps me and my skills on our toes. Get better and better.

Funny review I admit, but I am not convinced. For all the jokes this review doesnt work. Is it only about AF? Is that all you want as a so called "filmmaker"? Blackmagic 4k, 6k, 12k non has it. And other panys have worse. But what if I wanted the best ibis in the business? What if I tell you that no other camera can shoot handheld anamorphic (with internal desqueez), with 7.5 stop ibis and at 5.7k vlog? And which camera from your list does 120k 4k at 10 bit at no crop? AF has its limitations, but if you bothered activating the "focus limiter", your face would be in focus and the focus wouldnt jump to the background. Carry lenses with half the weight/size is very appealing as well. Maybe its just me but this camera seems not far from perfect.

I will keep commenting. Would you prefer a better AF?? or a BETTER IBIS/stab ? My friend who is a run and gun videographer , bought sony A7III after gh5 , and reselled it to be back on gh5. AF is enough , specially as videographer. Hard to thing that for videographer AF is such a big deal. I would say no prob for photographer (it's usefull af) . But you are mainly use it MF. And AF is decent for when you need. A good AF is really good if you put on gimbal and you are like (i hope he focus my character well) . But i prefer to have a god ibis of gh5/gh6 over a GOod af. when you can shoot stable shot with 200 mm or even walk with a 50 mm . Create insane broll slow mo with gh5/gh6 is so much easier a nice than a GOod AF M4/3 = you can buy with 1200 $ 2 good optic 50 mm 1.4 sigma art + let's say some FD lenses or 18-35 1.8 . wheras FF lense are expensive af. I reckong gh6 should have been selled around 1800-2000 but people forget that if you buy it now you have a CF Express (200 €+ vlog ) whereas before you have to spend 100 € on vlog.

Not sure what they're doing with that AF either. Panasonic said GH6 is built according to feedback from the GH4 but *surely* they could have stepped in in mid development when the GH5 was released and the single biggest criticism was AFC.

For that crappy outfocus I returned the GH6. That camera is just to keep steady in one place. You can't walk or run because that outfocus is going to kill your video. And that ISO over 2000 we don't need that if we have a decent lens.

I think the GH6 is not impressive. But that's because everyone expected these specs already after the GH5 came out and they gave us a smaller display instead. The GH series is a MFT series including a big lineup of lenses and possibilities to use amazing C mount lenses and adapters. So who the hell would say that it would have been better if they put a APSC sensor and EF mount in it. Absolutely nonsense in my opinion. That's more of a request for a new series like the A600 Sony series. And there are many prefessional tests on KZbin which proof that sensorsize is not important for imagequality. I bought a S1 and still prefered my GH5. I tested it and as long as you are working in the limitations of the GH5 it is one of the best cameras for many people. You also did not mention the noise problem with dynamic range boost. So overall it feels more like you were just saying: MFT is the problem that this camera is not good. And that's not the case. Panasonic just did a very bad job on this one.

Love the style and love the video but saying they should remove ISOs under 2000 or 4k120 or all 5.7k modes etc etc etc all for east of use is a little silly to me, especially since there are just as many people that would care more about higher res and higher framerates than higher DR. Also there IS a way where you dont have to remember all those settings. Turn DR BOOST on, and never turn it off, and then anything you cant select is stuff you dont have to worry about. Its not perfect but I cant think of a better solution than they did personally. Lets look at the A7siii for example. It performs embarrasingly bad in low light for a Sony Low Light king with half the MPX of a mft camera half its cost and the noise performance doesnt really get "good: until 128000 and higher. Hell the GH6 is around the same noise performance at 6400 so for easy of use should sony just have a fixed ISO of 12800? I dont think so.

To me though, sure you can pay double or triple for a Canon or Sony that can do the same specs but will good af but dang paying double for a Sony A7siii to have the same specs and IQ or worse but with better autofocus just really doesnt interest me.

The AF seemed okay with the kit lens, but I just love that I can throw on pretty much any third party lens on my sony and it just works. I wish the panny folks got the same experience while still benefitting from the lower price tag

I was so close to buy it but ended up getting another BMPCC 4K instead and kept my G9. Lumix s5 seems a better option 100% but IMO nothing beats a BMPCC4K + Metabones XL combo as far as IQ and versatility. Sony is crap 💩 except anything above the FX3 hehehe
