Hello, Thank you, i have a question : do we have to remove the strap clip? If yes, how? thank you
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
You definitely need to remove the one on the shutter button side. The plastic clip pops off and then it just unthreaded like a keyring.

Nice review! Did you use the HDMI clamp? Smallrig told me the A7SII/A7III clamp would work with this cage and it does...kind of. But parts of the clamp are in the way of the monitor. It is just not well layed out I think.
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's the one I have. The clamp does stop you being able to use the camera monitor properly but I don't look at it when I'm using an external monitor anyway so it doesn't bother me.

Thanks for review. Looking for the cage in UK

I got mine directly from smallrig via eBay... Quick postage direct from China.

I wish they added a second shoe mount on the slant on the other like their older cages like their gh5, g85, cages. I feel like they just want you to buy an extra *cold shoe adapter to make it usable with shotgun mics.
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. The mount above the shutter button is useless!
@JohnSoh3 жыл бұрын
@@RoryandCasey I just got it and realized they don't even have screw holes to add an extra cold shoe mount there. I'll be returning the smallrig one and getting the niceyrig cage where you can at least put an extra shoe mount there.

Do you have problems with the strap connectors on your camera being in the way? My cage doesn't seem to have enough room to be secured properly. So, when I connect my S5 to the cage, I lose access to the battery and to the SD cards. Any tips?
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
The strap connector on the side of the shutter button definitely needs to come off as the screen to prevent twisting goes through that connectors eyelet. The one on the other side it doesn't really matter if you take that one off or not.

Just ordered my cage on the back of this review! Thank you.. keep the vids coming :)
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
Great stuff mate! Glad it could help! You'll have to change your KZbin name now you've got the S5 ;)
@AndyGray1573 жыл бұрын
@@RoryandCasey Haha yeah, I screwed myself with that name! I've literally just put the smallrig on, it makes the camera even more bada$$!! I have a question: whenever I turn the camera on, & click the menu it doesn't go in there. I have to record a clip, then menu option is available to me... is that normal?
@24by363 жыл бұрын
With the GH5 cage, you get the option to fit a 'helmet kit', which goes over the XLR attachment and allows stuff to be mounted above it. No such luck with the S5 cage, it seems.
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
Yeah nothing like that I can find yet for the S5 but no doubt it will be in the works. One good thing about smallrig is they constantly design and improve and they do listen to their users for ideas. Shoot them an email if it's something you want!

Can you still screw in a tripod at the bottom? It looks like the big flat head screw is in the way.
@RoryandCasey2 жыл бұрын
There are a bunch of 1/4 inch 20 threads on the bottom you can mount any tripod/monopod/gimbal that your heart desires

can the ronin dj2 be used with the cage? thanks does it fit with the cage on the s5?
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't say for sure as I don't have that gimbal but from having seen some other KZbin videos I'd say it would be fine. Even with the cage the camera isn't much bigger and still smaller than the s1

hello, do you know how to disable the center box in mf mode?

Unfortunately I don't think you can. I believe it's still there for the push to af function on the back.

Thanks for the video! Would you take the cage off when shooting photography, or is it sleek enough to have on the camera 24/7? Thanks!
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
You could leave it on, it doesn't get in the way when adjusting exposure etc and it doesn't weight much plus it will still give you some added protection in case of a drop.
@Beatsmith20053 жыл бұрын
@@RoryandCasey thanks, I’d rather leave it on, but it looks a bit clunky/awkward for photography, don’t really wanna buy the L bracket version as well and swap them around. Hard to gauge without trying! Thanks for your feedback!
@RoryandCasey3 жыл бұрын
No worries! Even with the cage the camera is still smaller than the S1 so it isn't that bulky.
