I am not saying that the all reviewers and the ones I've talked about are bad intended or missleading , I know that they need to be "company friendly" but that's not the way. But please don't tell us viewers its good or bad after couple of hours/days with the camera without testing it in real life situations with all kinds of lenses/combos.

If they actually manage to kickstart the LUT film-sim movement with this camera - i'd say this camera is maybe not that great, but certanly useful for the community. After all - the way i see it, this LUT functionality will be compatible with every camera that has real time LUT feature, not S9 exclusively. If they also manage to add real time LUT to older camera with a firmware - it's gonna be great time. I already use Real Time LUT with S5II, with a few i was able to find online i get very convincing results, one guy made a Kodak Gold 200 LUT specifically to use on top of the L.Neo.Classic setting that allows to add grain effect. This feature is being slept on and i honestly also blame youtubers for it because they focus on video functionality too much.

As someone using Sony I obviously could be stamped as a shill, but it couldn't be further from the truth. I have started on Lumix, then used Nikon, went back to Lumix, learn in the Studio on Fuji, bought a Sony, bought a Fuji and then upgraded my Sony twice. That said, I have to defend Sony. Hear me out and skip to the last paragraph if you really don't want the "rant". "Skintone issues" are such a BS claim, sorry. Tony Northrup did a blindtest when the A7rii was around and Sony won on "pleasant colors". Ok, TN is sensationalistic some might say, so let's move on. Gerald Undone did colorchart tests with scientific color patches and such and Sony constantly did have pretty good colors. I'd take that at heart as I believe he does through videos and actual fact based tests. But he's also a KZbinr, so why trust him? Well, I had 3 Sonys myself and other cameras around. Skintones were never an issue. People complained, but really, because some used it in a way that makes sense, but actually leads to the issue: and that is Adobe. In LR you set your profile to "Camera Standard", because that's how every brand does it, right? Well, not with Sony - because Adobe profiles for Sony do suck and give bad skintones. That is 100% true. But if you use Adobe standard, Capture One or a linear response profile for your RAW, you wouldn't have any of those issues. Ok, so now I got hung up on color, but what else was there? Menus? Yeah, not the best, but subjective. It's fair to criticise them and saying "noone mentioned them" couldn't be further from the truth. EVERYONE complained about them rightfully so - and so they also did about the skintones. This wasn't a secret. WB issues didn't matter for most, but are fair. In RAW it doesn't matter and in video you should use manual WB anyway. But ok, point taken. Same with the LCD. They're bad, point made. But a LOT of people ripped on them and I wouldn't say reviewers kept this info secret. The Fuji AF rant is warranted, but I don't feel like "everyone" is sweeping it under the rug. Pointing improvements is fair and I think there are points to be made, but I agree a lot of them went overboard when comparing it. By a lot. Lastly, coming back to the S9, I see a lot of people complaining that "pros with lots of gear try to talk bad a camera made for beginners", but what is really their interest? For a lot of reviewers it seems to put gas in this fiery battle. "The R1 is a Sony killer!" / "The S9 is the best new street photo camera!" / "Z6III will destroy Lumix sales!" etc. etc. etc. In the end, isn't pointing out flaws and "worse value" a act of protecting buyers? If I tell a beginner his chosen option is bad, is it because I want them to buy something more expensive (where I don't even profit from) or because I want them to not get frustrated when stuff like hotshoes, mechanical shutters or an EVF are missing? Are reviewer's really out for sales they don't get a cut? I don't think so. So saying only 1% told You about the bad Fuji AF or noone talked about Sony issues seems hyperbolic... But maybe I just watch the 1% you mentioned and that's fair. A lot of reviews are from people that never held more than 2-3 different models in their hands and with luck they're from different brands. Good reviews are indeed a rarity, though there's plenty people I'd say one can trust, but most issues you said were kept a "secret" were, to my knowledge at least, openly communicated by a lot of people. But as Gerald Undone said in one of his recent videos: There's a lot of people pleasers out there now and the ones the reviewers often want to please the most are the brands offering them samples. I appreciate your video, but at the same time I feel like the rant you had overstayed its welcome (and so did mine). You had good points, but some just don't check out with my experience. And maybe that's more on me than you - so all in all fair game. It's good to speak up about this, but I think you went a bit too far beyond by basically putting everyone in a box.
@edvard29424 ай бұрын

I know who to look for first sneak peak view, or different person for general review, another for in-depth review, person that compares with my existing gears, and long term review. There's also plethora of resources on raw files, studio image comparison, user pics with data etc.. I find it weird now suddenly it's a problem when new gear announced and people hypeing it, it's their job anyway?? I watch review, get their insight, do my homework, compare specs, go to actual store, get a feel and then test it before committing it. And I suggest this step to other friends that want to buy camera gear, so far unless they quit photography or other similar hobby no one complaining

Excellent video. I bought a S5IIX 6 months ago, based in reviews. Fortunatelly it´s an awesome camera. I´m really happy. It has its downsides, but for my workflow it´s perhaps perfect. But before that I was tempted to go for the R6 (I was a Canon fan for years) and I trully realized that until now, in the media gama, Canon have not nailed with any mirrorless camera. Because perhaps they´re too much simple for the advanced user...and those cameras are "nerfed" in my opinion. All of the Canon Cameras. But the reviewers of Canon always said those cameras are the best. Barelly talk about the overheating on R5 (and R6), the lack of recording formats, the wabbling od the edges in stabilization...etc. Never. So about the S9 for me it´s just a cheaper version of the S5II and S5IIX, as a B cam or for traveling. And it´s simple to use and even give you a finished (baked in cam) files. And this is the way they´re supposed to sell it. New suscriber here! Waiting for your next video bro.

The 1 good thing about the S9 is that it focused attention on the youtube reviewers. When a manufacturer produces a camera that is so completely, woefully inadequate in so many areas and yet gets rave reviews, there has to be a problem with those reviewers. When you then find out that those reviewers were hand picked by the manufacturer and given an all expenses trip to Japan, the level of coercion becomes obvious.

As stated in Gerald Undone’s video, there are reasons for lacking launch-day videos and I can understand it. On the other hand, MKBHD does a great thing where he only makes a “First Impressions” or “Hands on” video at launch day and a full review follows later. I think camera youtube can learn from this approach. Furthermore, if a video drops on launch day, how realistic is the expectation to be watching an in-depth review? This doesn’t mean I want to blame the viewers. To reiterate, maybe these videos just shouldn’t be packaged as reviews.

I have been looking at cameras for the past month or so, after putting the photo hobby away for a long time. The products on the market are damn confusing. And so were the influencer reviewers. I've been very sceptical the whole time after getting burnt on the Canon G7X mark III hype. Focusing was bad but got better, but like after a couple of years of owning the camera.. So I updated it with the latest firmware, but they have "focus mode 1 and 2" couldn't they call it smooth and fast ? and with the improved firmware, the settings was still defaulting to the horrible slow focus setting. It doesn't last very long on a battery. Has record limits. It has a mic input, which was one of the main features I wanted to not go through the pain in post of aligning audio recordings with the video, but audible electrical noise quite annoying. A comment on a video I made said I can use my h1n zoom as mic amp before connecting it to the camera. That can work.. but still it doesnt make the camera any better. They say the best camera is the one you take with you. I currently don't with this one. I'm on the fence of getting a Fujifilm XT-5. Now I'm not sure. Though I will probably not shoot video (or weddings lol) at F1.4 anyway. And the images and colors look fantastic. I have a EF lenses and FD and FL lenses (manual focus) that I'd like to try with a converter.

I get all of what you are saying but planning to compare a knowingly flawed firmware update with another camera doesn't seem like a fair comparison. The initial firmware AF of the X-H2s was leagues over the X-T4 and X-S10. It got worse with later updates . When did you get your X-H2s ? What firmware was the first one you updated to when you got it ? I had no issues with f1.4 initially on my Viltrox 13 and sigma 56. Now it's bad I can admit. Very frustrating for the cost. I really hope they fix this soon. It looks bad on them. They don't need to put out another camera for a while . They need to fix these issues. It's unacceptable. Am I switching , nah I'm not. At least not fully. I do have an A7 IV already but it's mainly for paid gigs which I have one coming up in June. I'll probably still take my X-H2s as a second camera .

Sounds like you've found a testing focused niche to create content about that can help people in your previous situation. Fill the gaps you see in the video space. 👍 That's the great thing about KZbin. The distinction I try not to cross is related to intent and perceived intent of creators. For example, I personally do what I reasonably can with videos I make and try to watch my wording, but there are limits to the amount of time I can spend. It otherwise quickly turns into endless projects. I often focus on my own uses cases because those are ones I can best cover. If it overlaps with what viewers are looking for, then awesome. Otherwise people with that gear too should consider filling the gaps.

Thanks for your videos, this needs to be said. I used to have the XT4 and was ready to throw it in the garbage for the crappy auto focus. But heavily invested in all the lenses, I opted to buy the XT5 after extremely careful study. This is what I found, but take it only from a photographer as I don’t do video. If you buy linear motor lenses, the auto focus is great, but be advised I’m not using eye/face recognition, just general shooting at custom number one setting. I’m getting the best auto focus shots ever, which is not saying it’s up to Sony or canons level, just that it’s way above what it used to be. Although you can get pretty good results with linear motor lenses with the XT4, the XT5 is better. For nonlinear motor lenses I would use the limit focus built into the camera body, 6.5 to infinity is a good place to start. I am doing mostly street photography.

I was able to re-create the issue of having a closer object part-covering your face and even though the camera does seem to find the eye, it often focused in the hand. But other than that it seemed pretty good- again, stills not video. Didn't try video. I want to make clear: I am not trying to shoot down your experience at all. Just wanted to make sure I can double check you are talking about video. I am personally sick of people who are influencers that make claims that are not quite right, as you are pointing out in this video.

Panasonic should have aimed their product at the Sony A7c Mark II. I recently bought the Fujifilm for auto eye detection, and I am sitting a bit regretful about that decision.

That's why, reviews aside, I stuck with Olympus (now OM). I had a track record with them, that every next camera will be better than the previous one. They had their share of mistakes over the years, but never failed me. Watching reviews from time to time is fun, but taking pictures with a tool that you can rely on is even better.

I think we viewers also need to take some of the slack. I mean... I dunno about you but when a camera is released and within 24hrs you get a dozen 'impressions' videos, I'm certainly not gonna base my decision to buy something that costs several thousand dollars on a 7min impression video! That's why we get 6 month reviews or longer, those are generally much more helpful. You have to remember these people doing these reviews... for some it's their bread and butter. They have to play the algorithm game, release content often, even if its nonsense (like Camera Conspiracies), and anything that comes their way to review or talk about is content to keep the dollars coming in. I don't blame them at all. It's fine for Gerald to rant, he has over 400k subscribers, he has positioned himself so that he doesn't need brands to build his business, it's BUILT ALREADY. He'll get camera gear anytime he wants from someone somewhere and his reputation and review skills are good enough that he'll get the views like he says he does whenever he decides to talk about said gear. But that's not how it is for hundreds of others that are still hustling. But I wonder if he danced to the exact same tune when he was starting out, I doubt it (and he would probably admit that). If a brand sends an item out to you, it's common decency to review it in good light. Say something positive, say something negative (or could be improved), finish on a positive note (much like when delivering constructive criticism). Can't find anything good to say? Send it back and don't do a review, or deliver the honest verdict knowing you are closing a potential door of revenue (folks... this is ALL business). What I find most depressing of all is just the level of information in the reviews. It's the SAME thing being talked about again and again. Because 40min videos don't do well on YT, the reviewers can't really do stuff like take us through the menus (as boring as that might be), that's the kind of gold information I personally am after. I still cannot fathom how not one person who reviewed the XH2S mentioned that we could bind a button to toggle the eye detection from L to R eye, or that eye detection was working on silhouetted subjects -5EV!. Or how a heap of other useful features could now be bound to a button on the camera compared to the fewer options on the XT4. This shit mattered to me... but perhaps I am just weird. So I don't have a problem with reviewers, I see it for what it is, I just think it's a shame that the content feels very flat and basic, very superficial. When I bought my XH2S I spent 3hrs menu diving in the Fujifilm House of Photography, testing it, to make sure the camera would work for me and be a worthy upgrade beyond the XT4. All the reviews I watched beforehand, all thet did for me up until that point was cause my jaw to continually drop that they didn't mention this fact or that (which I was uncovering at the time in the store). Blame YT as well and blame all your lazy assess that don't watch 30-60min videos on YT. Fucking generation instant gratification and zero concentration span! You all try giving reviews in 12mins, it ain't easy!. I only wish more good channels out there existed like Edvard, Robert May etc, the ones that highlight good (and bad) SPECIFIC things. The broad overview stuff that you get a dozen time is the stuff that I find dull af.

As a Fuji user who switched to Sony. The difference is night and day. But for someone like Roman fox who only shoots Fuji and has learned to shoot great videos in spite of how behind the autofocus is compared to Sony. He is giving you a review on how it compares to previous Fuji cameras. His target audience is Fuji shooters. Not you trend hoppers who want the x100vi because you saw it on TikTok. There is no perfect camera and each system has a learning curve. I get you want to be spoonfed but the misconception is you can brand hop with no consequences.

No, he's saying that reviewers say Fuji has caught up with the competition, not that it's better than their previous stuff. And they do. I personally haven't seen any saying that it's better than Canon, but most say it's really close - which it obviously isn't.

I use a Fujifilm XT3 for sports, family, and portrait photography. The autofocus does occasionally miss, but almost all of my photos are in focus. My only complaint with the XT3 is its low-light performance - there is a lot of noise at high ISO. Otherwise, I'm happy.

camera reviews are amateurish (with the notable exception of Christopher Frost with his great lens reviews). I'm not aware of a standard scoring system for autofocus, white balance, skin tones, etc. We need a standard way for comparing products. Easier said than done, but almost anything would be an improvement. Maybe Edvard is the one to do it.

Louder for the people in the back!! But please slow down on the release! I still haven't sold all my Fuji kit! Your videos might blow out and Fuji fanboys might catch up hahahahahaha. One good thing about Fuji at the moment is that they have such a cult following that is so contagious that the value of the gear either go up in value or don't go down at all - I sold an old X-T2 and X-E3 with a 27 2.8 non wr and was able to purchase a Canon R6 with the money which is probably the best decision I have ever made. The Canon R6 AF is alien technology compared to Fujifilms top cameras (i only do photos so don't come at me about 4k overheating issues)

Never make a buying decision after watching launch-day videos. Always take these videos released after embargo as first impressions, not reviews. Wait a few months for actual people to buy and use the product in the field to get real reviews. Also watch reviews of those who are actually working pros (in whichever field) and happen to have a youtube channel versus those who are fulltime "youtubers"

Yup i can attest to this. Couple the wrong lens with the setting you choose for the goal you are trying to achieve then its really going to be painful. Sony's algorithm is mostly automatic while Fuji's would require some planning like theres a very specific combination. But once you get to know how it works you can drive with it. Its just this content creators build this expectations with their X camera feature is better than sony. Nothing can beat the sony, Nikon had to rebuild their system from the ground up just to catch up with sony.

If if you’re using linear motor lenses, you shouldn’t have any issues. But I only do photography. With non-linear motors just put it at 6.5 to infinity, should fix most auto focus issues. I have no complaints since doing this. But again, I don’t use eye/face detection.

The autofocus on the Fuji cameras is not great, in my experience. I've owned an Xt3, XH2, and currently have an XT5. I find that it works well when the subject is stationary and I'm shooting in JPEG. However, when there's motion involved, it's only about 60-70% reliable. This is unacceptable when trying to capture once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Until I change shutter priority to focus. I really think you have an issue setting up your cameras or by the looks of one video, you’re not properly lighting your scenes. You’re literally comparing the shot that Lee Zavits did outside in great light to yours that is incredibly under exposed indoors. No wonder it wouldn’t catch focus. Do better

Fuji autofocus is great, but ONLY for stills. Video autofocus is just a gimmick. Even if it was good, Linear Motor lenses are just not smooth enough, too jittery for a serious video production even in manual mode. The fundamental flaw of a focus by wire system. Manual cine lenses are the only solution here unfortunately

It’s a strange line to balance. Appearing honest/balanced to the viewers but also loyal to the company that feeds you. Not going to sell it anyway soon. And about Sony as you've mention, I totally agreed. It's too overhype, almost no youtuber mention its bad side. I use Sony at work (a7sIII, FX9, PXW-Z750). Most omit showing you where it failed and underplay the cons. There's a whole range of reasons they do it: 1. If you're given something for free you'll feel obligated not to trash it. 2. If you depend on getting loaner cameras from the manufactures they won't send you them if you're too critical. 3. It's easy to miss things if you only have the camera for a short period of time. 4. Fan boys and tech enthusiast don't like negative reviews and these are the majority of people who watch these videos. People own a brand attack reviewers if they criticizes it. I don't think most KZbin reviewers are intentionally trying to do anything wrong, they're trying to earn a living and the incentives for being only positive is over whelming. Don't get me wrong I've been fooled myself and don't like it. The only way is to test it yourself by renting or buying and returning it if you're not happy. That's not easy to do. The other thing is the companies collude and each have their own drawbacks. One might focus well and over heat another might not over heat but have a different issue. Once you buy into their lens system it's expensive to change.
