F11 is usually set as the Emergency key by dispatching programs for law enforcement. Same as an orange button on a two way radio. When using Computer Aided Dispatching software it will send a signal to dispatch. Drivers are actually probably the easiest to get. They are all on Panasonic’s website, you just choose the model computer you have and the operating system and it will bring back what applies to it. The SIM card slot will not work unless you have an air card in the computer. If you have one, then you need the program from the cell provider to use their SIM card. The Air Card is also carrier specific, some or only for certain carriers or there is a multi carrier which allows Sprint, Verizon and ATT all off the card. The antenna pass through on the back is only for a docking system, and can be set to be a WiFi, cell or GPS through BIOS. Reinstall audio drivers, it will probably help with your sound issues.

I have an earlier model of Toughbook that ran Windows XP; I actually took two different ones I got off eBay and mixed and matched parts to get a whole one. It has the extendable antenna on the top of the screen and the proper Cisco WiFi card (which is actually an internally mounted PCMCIA/PC Card). You could throw that thing against the wall and it would damage the wall. I actually impressed people with how tough it was - by putting it on the floor and standing on it. On at least one occasion a Toughbook saved a soldier in the Middle East....by actually stopping a bullet. Did I mention you can set it out in the rain and it wouldn't bother it either? I intend to get a newer one; they have SSDs and they even have a 2 in 1 tablet one (the CF-33).

On one site advertise $3,799 new. I pay $350 for a refurbish one. The outer shell looked like it went to hell and back but flipped open, the key board and screen is in excellent condition. Works great. This lap top does not put out a lot of heat or any at all that I notice.. Faster and better than my old $1000 lap tops. I purchase another refurbish secondary battery to greatly extend battery time. New secondary battery $250 refurbish secondary battery $50. Looks tough and feels TOUGH!! Happy I bought it. Just what I needed for work. Refurbish is the way to go if you need it but just don't have the money or don't want to pay the high prices.

They should start using full titanium for the Toughbook. Bikes have been using titanium for a while now, it's time laptops do that do. Titanium is just much lighter and tougher than magnesium alloy and plastic, simple as that.

Yes, that's true but it would make it even more ridiculously expensive than it already is! Also the magnesium alloy is actually lighter than titanium alloy - magnesium is even lighter than aluminium!

You don't have eye strain after looking at cf-31 screen? I started using my cf-31 mk3 as server, as my eyes hurt with this screen, even with low brightness.

It would useful if reviewers knew all functions and did the requisite research before "ummiing" and "soing" for 20 minutes without demonstrating actual uses. PCMCIA slots allow for direct, fast access to the CPU and allow for extra storage, ports which might be needed and even cards containing standalone operating systems including some Linux ones. You forgot to show the keyboard off facility for when this model is used for touch from any direction -- perhaps most usually jotting figures and facts from books or sheets which lie on the keyboard. There are clips for the purpose. An SSD (one at least is possible) running Windows 10 will usually gather drivers automatically but some specialized ones can be obtained from Panasonic and companies which use these workhorses. When using SSD disconnect warming coils. The trackpad is nothing like on a standard laptop. Users of these devices generally prefer bluetooth mouse and the mouse can be adjusted to perform such as civil engineering work via a PCMCIA card, some of which users program themselves. Upgrading RAM is possible but there are many screws to remove to access the board. This is expected on a weatherproof machine.

I finally got a look at the cf-31, the seller wiped the drive using killdisk so I need a formatted drive installed. Plus I can’t get to bios either. I also need to get a dvd drive of load win7 from usb. This will take some time to setup.
