PanchaMtantra - SHAME ON YOU, INDIAN IDOL

On Saturday, 11th March 2023, Indian Idol had a special show - Celebrating R D Burman, in which they had invited one of Panchamda’s Core team members - Shri Ranjit Gazmer. But the treatment given to him was to put it mildly - disrespectful.
This video is to highlight and pay respects to Gazmerji, aka Kanchabhai and his sincere, soft hearted personality.
This video is to thank his immense contribution of over five decades to the music of Panchamda, which has given so much joy to every Pancham Fan in the world.
This video is to truly CELEBRATE R D Burman by humbly paying respect to one of his many precious musicians.
This video is to tip our hats to MAADAL - that small little percussion instrument from Nepal, which became the SOUND OF PANCHAM.
This is for all those things, which should have been done by the INDIAN IDOL makers, who were busy showing all how they are giving a platform to new talent, but in reality do not have the slightest respect for the senior musicians who made Indian Music richer by their amazing contribution over the past decades.

Salute you Madhavji. You raised a pertinent important question that exposes the TRP racket. I had the fortune to meet Ranjit Gazamer ( Kanchada) a few times in Kolkata shows on Panchamda where he publicly and privately shared so many trivia and anecdotes and it reflected the utmost respect and adulation he had for Panchamda.He is one of the finest madal player and a great composer now in his own right. He shared along with Late Homi Mullan that how Panchamda always took care of his musicians as a family member and paid his entire fees and even overtime when Kanchada was immobile due to a bad slipped disc . I am definitely going to make your video viral.

When I saw Babu Ji in Indian Idol , I said to my mother "Look Babu Ji is there, just wait and Indian Idol will introduce him". Mother replied to me "May be, lets see". And I said what do you mean by may be, they must introduce him. Then we watched whole episode but.. at last my mother laughed at me for my confidence. Your anger is right. Really appreciate this! Kanchabhai was such an integral part of the Great RD Team! The tragedy is that Indian Idol would celebrate Laxmikanth- Pyarelal and Kalyanji Anandji very royally. But when it came to Pancham it was very ordinary! Pancham was way way ahead of these composers and till date my anger is the fact that R .D. Burman and his team are never being celebrated! Perfect my friend! I am not a fan of Indian Idol. Happened to watch it as soon as I saw RD's name. Got the goosebumps when I saw Kanchabhai playing in one corner. I thought, he will get his due, get some sort of felicitation on the stage. Totally disappointed. Then, this video showed up in my feed. Totally agree with you. Such a gentlemen and modest person he is. Shame on Indian Idol. They are probably clueless how lucky they were when Kanchabhai came to play at their show. He's much larger than the show. He played for RD, for him this show doesn't matter at all. And for RD fans like me, Indian Idol is just another filler on the TV. I never knew about the contribution of Kanchabhai in the life of RD Burman. It is shocking that there was NO mention of him in that Indian Idol episode. He was just made to sit as an "extra" playing his instrument. There was no introduction at all! Shocking! Thanks for bringing this up. I went back and watched that episode. It was actually painful to see Kancha da sitting there playing without any introduction. That an award winning musician and an inevitable part of Pancham da's music and life was in the show and these fools did not have the basic courtesy to show the respect he deserves. The clip where Rishi performed in some event was not required. Nor the cacophony presented by HR and VD in the name of singing. As an audience and music lover I would have loved to meet Kanchabhai through Manoj Muntasir in his way. Pathetic and shameful INDIAN IDOL. Usually musicians are given screen time. Even the regular musicians playing on the show are seen on screen multiple times.

I have been a die-heart fan of Pancham since 1994. However, I was not aware of Kanchaji's contribution when our pancham left us after 1942 a love story. Thank You very much for sharing with us. Yes, I also applaud with you "SHAME ON YOU INDIAN IDOL". I saw some one playing this madal but did not recognize it was Kanchaji. I surely agree with you that for Pancham all of his musician were family and I have seen Bhramhanad Documentary Movie on "Unmixed Pancham". I am sure Panchamda would have really hurt if he was alive today.

It is indeed a very shameful thing on Indian Idol's part and these people will never learn until we all decide to ban such shows. The poor participants too need to understand the values of Indian music and it's creators and learn to respect what these gems have bestowed upon us. As I watched this Indian Idol episode I was waiting that they will bring some old musician from Pancham Da's team and have them say a few words about RDB. Then I saw this old man playing maadal in one of the songs and that raised my hopes of listening directly from one of Pancham Da's team member. However, that did not happen and I was disappointed. In fact, they turned the episode in another direction away from RDB. I totally agree with Madhav ji and his disappointment towards Indian Idol. They should have taken the opportunity to honor Shri Ranjit Gazmer in this episode and requested him to share some of the amazing experiences of him with RDB. Shame on you Indian Idol😔😠

Dear Madhavjee, We are all big fans of Panchamda whose music we all love so much. A big thank you to you for bringing up and shedding light on this important issue regarding Ranjit uncle. I call him uncle because he is a very dear friend of my father, late Gopal Yonjan, a highly regarded , Nepali lyricist, music composer and singer. Both of them had a commonality in the fact that they were both born in Darjeeling and went on to achieve great heights in Nepali music. I see a couple of comments disputing that Ranjit Gazmer is an Indian because he was born in India and therefore he cannot be called a music composer from Nepal. I think what these commenters need to understand is that Ranjit Gazmer was born into an ethnically Nepali background and has contributed immensely to Nepali film music - which gives him the right to be called a popular and much loved Nepali music composer. It is important to clear this out so we learn to move away from petty geographical polities and embrace the higher and richer meaning of music and all that it gives us. Yes, reality shows these days have become more of a melodrama than what they actually can be. Sadly, Nepali musical reality shows are following suit. I wish to thank you especially for bringing up this issue for Ranjit Gazmer, (which should not have been the case) and for your deep understanding of his contributions. I am saddened by the lack of responses by Nepalis to this issue - especially those who are sitting on their chairs with big titles heading various musical organizations. I have been studying Pancham Da's music for a big time and such compositions which he adopted from some west compositions but those were only the first two or four lines and else entire song was completely different every time. Ranjit Gazmer is not a renowned musician of Nepal but of Nepali music and music industry. He is from Darjeeling, born and brought up in Darjeeling which is a part of the state of West Bengal in India. After starting his music career in Darjeeling, he went to Nepal worked as a teacher and worked for some time in Nepal Radio and later moved to Bombay.

So if someone says he is a Nepali then I don't think there is something really great mistake for most of the inhabitants of Darjjeling & Sikkim have been migrated from Nepal since long time ago. That is how people in these area speak & follow Nepali language, culture & festivities. Otherwise people from Bihar & U.P are not seen speaking Nepali language & culture both. Now start searching your roots in any eastern regions of Nepal. Because of the job in Royal academy of Nepal he got the opportunity to explore his career in Bombay. So don't get hurt!

His ancestors were from foothills of Nepal. Absolutely A BIG SHAME on Indian Idol. Ranjit Gajmerji is a legendary music Composer in his own right, he has been Publicly honoured by the Vice President of Nepal himself for his decades of contribution to the Music Industry, and Ranjeet Gajmerji similiarly was associated Very Closely with the Legendary Panchamda and was one of his most closest and reliable confidant apart from being a Musician. Indian Idol invited Ranjeet Gajmerji and shot a significant segment with him about Panchamda not only on the sets of Indian Idol but also at his home. But after that for reasons better known to Indian Idol (or for some particular reason it seems) they just completely deleted his entire segment and in doing so they not only insulted Such a Senior Artist and Musician So Close to Panchamda, but also insulted the Legendary Panchamda himself. SHAME Indian Idol.

Madhavji,really happy to see your true love for Pancham da and his team..Absolutely heartfelt words from a true Pancham bhakt..I am really not surprised by what Indian Idol has done..Because they create content only and only for TRP..Bechare gareeb ma baap ka singer beta,contestants ke beech ka pyar,masti,maa baap ka struggle, bhai behen ka struggle,struggle dekh ke ronewale judge..for all this they have lots of screen time..and it has been like this from day one..There is a huge huge difference between American Idol and our filmy Indian masala Idol..American Idol has maintained its decorum till the latest season,whereas our Masala Idol is becoming more and more FILMY with every new season,inspite of getting some genuinely talented contestants.. Appreciate the creator of this piece of vlog. The mainstream Indian media has been largely unfair towards Gorkhas, whether of India or Nepal, hiding the true achiements, contributions & sacrifices of Gorkhas. Further, there has been consistent tendency to tag all Gorkhas, even Indian Gorkhas, with Nepal. Though Ranjit Gazmer is an Indian from Darjeeling, he is often misunderstood to be a Nepali national.

If u are talking about the 18 year old contestant from idol 12 who got caught in a fake love angle due to channel politics to get trp then I want to clarify she didn't get married to any of her co-contestant ... Sony just bind her in a contract and using that fake love angle and hashtag to exploit her to earn more money through live shows ... She is getting out of the contract this month hopefully the love angle and hashtag will also end with the sony contract this month and she will fully focus in her solo individual career as u mentioned she is exceptionally talented and deserves to shine as a singing sensation or star in the upcoming years

@ Vijay , indian idol presentation through camera focus too much on guests n judges irritates me a lot When singer is singing. Earlier one artist N kakkar as judge n guest used to piss of all the viewers because for every five seconds camera used to focus on artificial fake mannerisms. I do watch some time when legends music composer tracks being played . This present video news is new to me and the Sony production house is worst of kind to ignore RD Burman's assist Ranjit sirji. On the whole this indian idol is bakwas show. Only because of golden era songs they are surviving.

Ranjit Gazmer not only played the madal on RD Burman's songs, but he came up with fully formed songs in terms of music like Kanchi Re Kanchi Re and Hum Dono Do Premi which Burman used as his own compositions. Ranjit Gazmer should also be credited as the primary composer of these songs.

I came back from India on Monday late night at 11.45 pm and in spite of my long flight from Mumbai to the US, I put on the TV to watch the PANCHAM special. I was at the very outset quite upset that some of those original RDB diamonds were not there (but as you said, they were and edited out shamefully). I would have expected some more of his super musicians to be honored. I mean who wants to listen to HR with his vibrating finger motion and VD (😂😂😂😂) with his stomping sing my dear Pancham’s Melodie’s. I was quite disappointed that the originals did not get invited and honored. They could have invited Franco Vaz, Raj Singh Sodha.. some more It was a sad display of honestly poor talent under the guidance of pretty bad music composers. HR and VD are sincerely poorly talented. They insulted the soul of Pancham today. I was sad and disappointed

What else can explain himesh reshmaiya and Neha kakkar being judges, Ashaji once mentioned how himesh insulted panchamda, after his death, imagine the audacity, look at the quality of the music, rather shld call it noise, do u think they hv any sense of music, they r stooges of ppl who take bollywood as bizness that too for money laundering drugs etc. They don't deserve kanchabhai, in a way it's good panchamda is not around 2c such degradation. They are nothing but a money-spinning racket, their priorities are different and they can stoop to any level. But why blame only the reality shows… they are only the reflection of who we have become as a society. Most people are just a ‘show’!
