Pancreatitis I know you well. Life long tea-toddler (Glass of Wine at dinner, Beer at a barbecue maybe 12 times a year) I spent 256 days in the hospital over 18 months. First Pancreatitis, then Chronic Pancreatitis, then Pancreatic Cysts. The cysts were so large that they collapsed my stomach and partially obstructed my bowels. Had to be tube fed special mixtures that were pumped directly into intestines and bypassed my stomach. The first time they they drained the Pancreatic Cyst it released almost 2 litres of liquid in the first five minutes. Even my Internal Medicine Specialist ran out of options. They installed a semi-permanent drain because it did make me feel better. The fluid just would never stop. Every day 300ml to 400ml of fluid. The pain was crazy throughout. These drains were only a temporary solution, the body would push them out after 4 to 6 weeks (but at least I was out of the hospital). They never did figure out what caused any of this to start... like I said not a drinker, no high blood pressure, no heart problems and no prescription or illicit drugs. Doctors were stumped. I had two operations to remove scar tissue from my Pancreas. Coded twice (once when a nurse pushed morphine to quickly and once during the second operation) Entered the hospital at 195lb. Left the hospital at 130lb. It was a nightmare! Still dealing with the aftermath.

how are you doing now?
@cliffcolter91616 ай бұрын
@@DJLCCH No to bad considering. I have chronic pain which has put me on Hydromorphone. The pain has gotten better. The constant stream of lower dose opiods has help stop the really bad pain episodes. I no longer have to go to the emergency department 4 times a week for pain control. Doctors think this is probably from nerve damage from all of the attacks. After the two operations I got diabetes which was not unexpected by the doctors. They were surprised that it took two years after the operations The only other two symptoms that have really affect my day to day life. Eating is like playing roulette, it may not cause pain but crazy discomfort. My waist line can grow by 4 inches in under 15 minutes as my abdomen swells. I wear pants with an extra 6 inches at the waist with suspenders or very roomy coveralls. Years of food diaries and dietitians did nothing to help this problem because it is so random. I have tried digestive enzymes to supplement, but stopped because the results were even worse and they were causing more pain. The second problem is more psychological. I now have a wicked eating disorder that doesn't help with diabetes management. Food is my enemy. If I know that I have to do something I will not eat. I usually eat only once a day at night when everything that I need to do is done. My newest symptom that has just appeared in the last 6 months is I can no longer eat anything raw. Eating a raw carrot will send me to bed in massive amounts of pain.

The way Zac teaches always makes sense, helping me truly understand the material instead of just memorizing information I'll forget a few hours later. Thanks to Ninja Nerd, I am now on the verge of earning my bachelor's degree in Nursing. Thank you so much for making such a significant difference in my education!

Amazing lecture!! Thank you!! I only have 2 questions 1.If the kidneys have low perfusion, they increase the blood pressure, but you didn't mention it. Is it because the heart is working too bad and its hypotension outweighs the kidney's hypertension, so the result is hypotension? 2. What would the situation be so the pseudoaneurysms form? I heard about them and thought that blood erosion could lead to that, but if all the possible blood vessels to erode are outside of the pancreas, I'm not sure how they can form

I have a lifetime history of pancreatitis. It wasn’t until 4 years ago (at the age of 52) that I was diagnosed with CF and a SPINK1 mutation. It has been mentioned to me several times to have a TPAIT (removal of pancreas) but it still produces good insulin and I’m only in the hospital occasionally. I do have malabsorption issues and take enzymes for that. I have daily pain so I know it’s always in an inflamed state. I don’t take medication basically because I really try to stay healthy with natural alternatives, a plant-based diet and lots of exercise. I hate this is out of my control because I swear I’d do whatever it takes. My biggest issue lately is the pancreatic cancer. I was never told my risk could be high for it. That alone has me revisiting the transplant surgery idea. I’m really scared.

@noorbadran55638 ай бұрын
maybe because of the risk of hypovolemia, NSAIDs decrease kidney perfusion even further by constricting afferent arterioles

Hello. What’s the importance of serum Calcium in an episode of acute pankreatitis ?
@dereksniper4 ай бұрын
Maybe not the answer you want but Ca super important in cell signalling in general so having an extreme level at either end definitely disrupts many cell signalling and cascading event in the body in general
@aleksandarkozokic4 ай бұрын
@@dereksniper Found out it is actually an indicator of severity, where hypocalcemia is associated with more severe pancreatitis. When fat necrosis occurs during pancreatitis, fatty acids released from the pancreas can bind to calcium, leading to the formation of insoluble calcium soaps, which lowers the levels of calcium in the blood.

Why didn't you talk about autoimmune pancreatitis? I have that type and you didn't even mention it!!! I was told over and over my severe acute pancreatitis was most likely from alcohol, even though I have never used alcohol in my entire life plus the fact that I have Sjogren's Syndrome. My original doctor blew me off when I told him about AI pancreatitis being linked to my Sjogren's Syndrome. I finally convinced another gastro dr to do further testing and my IgG4 test was 305. Only then did I have an ERCP with a core biopsy that proved for sure I have AIP. Doctors need to stop having tunnel vision, they need to LISTEN to their patients and STOP gaslighting and ignoring them. I know my body, I know my lifestyle and doctors need to stop assuming their patients lie to them. I was totally honest, told my dr about AIP being linked to Sjogren's and he blew me off - it literally almost cost me my life.
