Pandemic in Prison: The San Quentin Outbreak | Fault Lines

Earlier this year, California officials brought busloads of imprisoned men from a coronavirus hotspot to the overcrowded San Quentin prison.
They had not tested some of the transferred men for COVID-19 for a month.
The bungled transfer sparked one of the country’s worst outbreaks. More than half the men imprisoned at San Quentin have been infected, and 28 have died.
The pandemic put a spotlight on prison overcrowding, and in October, a court ordered San Quentin to drastically reduce its population.
We investigate how a prison system endangered jailed people and staff, and meet loved ones on the outside grappling with loss.

I'm so confused about this channel. This channel seems incredibly factual and objective but I know it's obviously left leaning. Why would the Qatar government fund left leaning media? Who is the subject of most views - is this American News or news inside Qatar?

yes Prisoners who are serving sentences are there because of being convicted guilty. BUT it does not mean that you can just mess with their health and safety with a current pandemic. That was a stupid transfer with so many buses. even one bus is terrible for taking responsibility :(

Um. No they aren't. It's actually the home of a very robust and prolific death row. My husbands best friend works as a prison guard on said death row.

@@nicolecourtney8688 I used to work as a correctional officer at San Quentin, death row makes up a very small amount of the population of the prison, most inmates are level 2 or in for reception waiting to be classified and be shipped out to whatever prison they are placed at. COVID wasn't a huge issue in East block on death row anyway since those inmates are single celled and have very little contact with anyone. The overcrowded mainline and reception center in West Block was where it was a problem.

Good to know that such a situation existed in the USA whereas in movies the prisons shown in the Hollywood movies make it appears quite up to the mark. Back in India, visit any jail they would be competing in negatively breaking their records. Here, at least in Delhi, thanks to Delhi High courts almost 30% of people were released on interim bail/parole. But the fact remains the same despite the huge release of people from the prison they remain over-crowded. The worse case to my knowledge seems to be from Uttar Pardesh where once you are arrested on some cognizable and nonbailable offences no matter what a person is supposed to be in prison till about 4-6 months the time taken in bail applications up to High court.

Thank you for opening our hearts to this tragedy. I’m really touched by this. This situation is almost unbelievable. How dare we persecute another country for their human rights abuses, when we are dictating AMERICAN citizens, inmate or not, to their death.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but just so you guys know a lot of these people will be home at some point. I don't know if you noticed but some of them were actually in this video and not in prison. Although I still don't feel the same as you two it wouldn't matter cuz this much more of a public issue than you think it is

Release any non-violent offenders from the institution. They’re packed to the gills with people who need more than simply punishment. Rehabilitation and a second chance at making a productive life.

You wanna do a story about absolute inhumane conditions and human rights abuse , look into Bristol County House of Corrections,MA. I’ll give you this for free , for over a year after the ends of the pandemic the prison used covid as an excuse to not allow any visitors , they even tried to keep out lawyers which is a direct violation of our constitution. Moreover, why do the corrections facilities in MA operate outside federal law and do not have to subscribe to the regulations every other prison in this country do. There’s a story for you if you have the stones to expose the evils of the prison state of MA

This has some truth but it is also very swayed. Of course inmates and their families want them out. If it wasn’t Covid it would be some other reason they needed to be released.

You wouldn't be saying that if you were in there..or one of your love ones...people like you it's the reason it makes someone do what it takes to teach you a lesson to watch how you speak about others..you think because you have a mouth you can just say what ever to who ever and your smart commons finds that one person to put you in your place..and what you do since you don't have the balls to back up your plate..you call the "MAN"to get protection and send someone to prison..but maybe if you don't go around opening your "COCK~>HOSTER" and offending people..maybe learn lil respect..and don't speak out terms..fuckboy
