yes. i used to get the same feeling and i grew up in the US. my father used to be a chemistry professor in india and he used to teach me maths and science tuitions and help with my homework in the US. a few mistakes and he would blow up at me. here in US, we are not used to that type of learning. the teachers are very patient. they never yell and scream at you for the slightest or small mistakes that are made. it got to the point that his teaching method never sunk in to me and he spent money got me a private teacher who used to teach me my maths and science and that teacher was patient and better and taught me the concepts better and i understood them better and performed better in school and got better marks.

May be the reason why we don't make such diamonds these days is because even parents in the role of teachers are not half as patient. Naturally the kids too lose focus. very strict teacher. i think pundit ajoyji was very hard on kaushiki because he knew that she was a child prodigy and she could succeed in hindustani classical music. she looks so sweet but yet fearful to open her mouth to try to sing to not make a mistake. the paltas where pundit ajoyji starts a part of it and then expects kaushikiji to complete the pattern on her own, WOW. that is alot for a little kid to handle. very challenging. she needed to first analyze the swar patterns and convert them into numbers in her mind and replace those numbers with swars and then complete the whole octave ascending and descending and then sing.

Oh my goodness. Playing that kind of melodic progression on a musical instrument is hard enough. She's doing it vocally. It's unfathomable to me how they keep it straight. Huge respect to them both. I had to cheat when I was first learning how to play scales on guitar by using a metronome. And then gradually speed it up. They're doing this 100% by ear. Very remarkable.
