Rare raag sung by Maestro Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki. Great for meditation. The raga is not only rare, but ancient, and sung in times of rain.

An extraordinary rendition! Not many can assay this raga. JA' rendering is a masterpiece. I can't think of anyone who combines immense raag daari with deep feeling. Yes, Hindustani musicians render Karnatic ragas with greater feeling and mastery. Think of Amir Khan saab's Abholi and Charukeshi or Ravi shankar's Simhendra madhayam.

Amritvarshini is indeed a Southern Raga & as name suggests a raga sung during the monsoons. It is indeed a very powerful raga & not anyone's cup of tea, but after all only a singer of the calibre of Abhishekibuwa or his disciples to name Ms. Devki Pandit Nambiar, Smt. Asha Khadilkar, Raja Kale et al can do full & complete justice to such a powerful & holistic raga. No wonder that I being a E.N.T. Surgeon by profession considers Buwa as my ultimate DAIWAT. what a fantabulous rendition of RAGA AMRITVARSHINI.

Amritavarshini, Kalavati, Saraswati, Abhogi, Hamsadhwani, Charukeshi et al - all allegedly south Indian ragas and yet the Hindustani folks deliver the raga bhav so splendidly... I wonder if we in the south get caught up in the technicalities...Panditji sings Amritavarshini for 52 plus minutes and yet you thirst for more....

Down South ..carnatic music is more composition driven and hence artistes are typically in a tearing hurry to get done with the composition and explore the swara only superficially...but there is no such urgency in khyal music as the focus is more on exploration of the swara topology...hence it is more soothing and the flavor stays with oneself for a larger period of time... I guess carnatic musicians should give a little more focus on exploration of swara space making the blend of composition and swara even richer...the mridangam guys also need to take it easy to not take over the entire vocal proceedings :)

@@kuldeepdongre3209 More than what you said I many a time felt that in carnatic music they focus more on arithmetic of the Raaga ignoring the "Bhaava" or imotions attached to the Raaga....In Hindustani classical music they give importance to Bhaava at the same time carefully crafted Swaraas...That is why when you listen for example Raag Vrindavani Sarang sung by Hindustani classical musicians your eye are filled with tears and body gets goosebumps while the same Raaga you listen sung by carnatic musician you gets no emotions.....This is my personal view and experience...

The vilambit bandish is a composition of the late Agra Gharana maestro Pandit Chidananad Nagarkar, whose mudra or nom de plume in the piece is `Sat-Chit-Anand' : I shall check the printed text of the piece that begins with Aaad hai Anand Aanahaad

Amrithavarshini is defintely not 'rare' in Carnatic (South Indian) Classical music. Don't know for sure, but could be a raag that went from South to North like Hamsadwani?

Amritavarshini down south has a close equivalent in Raag Malashri in hindustani music. But in malashri, the nishad is rendered alpa and thus it translates to a 4 swar raag.. This is also close to Raag Marg Behag (Raag Maru behag truncated with application of just teevra madhyam) but Amritavarshini is just a audav jaati raag.

Eliminating shuddha madhyam from Marubihag is called Raga Maru. So are raga Maru and raga Margbihag synonymous? Thanking you in advance
