Ustad Shaffat Ahmed Khan was my Tabla Teacher, He passed away too soon. He represented the Delhi Gharana and was one of the finest human beings. His passing was such a tragedy ! btw Pt Shivkumarji himself is a good Tabla Player, His sense of rhythm combined with his knowledge of music brings out the best in his performances. BTW I was fortunate to learn Santoor from Pt. Shivkumarji. An unbelievable teacher. MY PRANAM to the Late Ustad Shafat Ahmed Khan sahib and Pt. Shivkumarji.

It’s Ustad Shafat Ahmed Khan, a very close associate of maestro Shivkumar Sharma. Shivji told me that this is the first time that Shafatji played Matt Taal of 9 beats. What an incredible performance!

This is a Chhanda Dhara recording and original studio recording has a far better audio quality. It’s sad that we upload recordings without mentioning anything about the copyright holder.

Yes, Chhanda Dhara was established by Gopi and Shefali Nag in Stuttgart Germany in 1971 and it organised and recorded several live concerts which were released in LPs, CDs and Cassettes later on. Almost entire collection of Chhanda Dhara is a treasure and musical delight for Classical music aficionados.

It seems that you don't have the right mindset to listen to this kind of music...comparing artists of completely different styles is stupidity... You lack the ability to understand true and pure indian classical music

I m sorry. Bilaskhani todi can not be played on an instrument like santor that has no meend

well said...either vocals or sitar, sarod would do full justice to bilaskhani todi..but be careful not to tread the bhairavi way as it ruins the real mood of bilaskhani todi

I had asked Pt. Sharma exactly this question directly during a SPIC MACAY programme at my college (Univ of Roorkee 1992) He avoided a direct answer saying it is too technical for others to understand. My understanding is that he creates an illusion of meend by playing both swaras at the same time and slowly changing the emphasis from one to the other. That gives an illusion of "meend"

Very interesting remark. But in same way it makes the interpretation on santoor still interesting and a great challenge.
