Everyone has a right to an opinion. But as someone who has studied the harsh reality of our US history, I can confidently say slavery was not a choice, it was horrific and something we as a country should be ashamed of.

@NewsDan. What choice did enforced slaves have?
@newsdan81936 жыл бұрын
Rooty Kazooty slavery or death. I said it was a shitty choice and I'm not belittling anyone in the past who chose slavery over death. But Kanye referred to 400 years. From this point to the origin of American slavery was approximately 400 years. I think Kanye is referring to current day more than to the past and how it still weighs so heavy on people that it weighs them down and traps them in a victim mentality. And when that happens it prevents free thought and promotes slavery/imprisonment of the mind.

Jess why should Americans be ashamed for something that happened 400 years ago , black people should be ashamed for always bringing this up even know they have gold chains , welfare and expensive clothes

Jess Africans sold their own people to us why should we be ashamed of that? A lot of slaves were taken care of because they did a lot of work and the white man appreciated that. Yes most of them weren't taking care of the Americans shouldn't be ashamed of it.

Its statements like this that can cause trouble for our young African American community not only now but for the future as well. People now a days just want to state their opinion and not have any facts to what they are saying so what the Cnn casters are saying so that young minded people can understand is have proof or have some type of information to back up your statement when you decide you want to bring up your argument.

Someone please explain to me what makes Kanye West a genius? Even before he went bat shit crazy, I thought some of his music was ok, but many of his lyrics make no sense half the time. I'm not impressed with his overpriced clothing line either, so I don't get it. Black folks helped create this monster, by making him think he's the greatest of all time, whatever that means. Now it's gone to his head and some black folks are still defending him as a genius? Maybe some of us should reevaluate what we consider genius, because I'm sorry, he ain't it. He's proving that to you right now. Wake the hell up!

An example of an informed intelligent artist who was an example to his community was Tupac, not Kanye. If this is what people consider genius the bar has been set way too low, and that stands musically as well. He is a fool and an embarrassment. Either way it was sarcasm, and the point is that it's a total misrepresentation of history by someone who clearly has not studied history. The same goes for the other foolish people in this thread making statements about going back to the plantation and voting Democrat. People would benefit from reading up on the two parties and what ACTUALLY HAPPENED, it's pointless to communicate with people that are that stupid.

I never liked Kanye West. I always thought he was a phony. I really believe that if it is true that he is millions of dollars in debt, I can almost understand why he makes those asinine comments. I would not be surprised if he runs as an arch-conservative. He can make all the money that he lost by getting money from some of those rich, billionaire donors. He reminds me of other black conservatives. Always follow the money. We always had people like Samuel L. Jackson's character in Django. Every slave revolt was stopped by a slave snitch. It was not a choice, but some people like Samuel L. Jackson's character made it very difficult for a slave revolt to be successful. The only successful slavery revolt in history was the revolt against Napoleon in what is now Haiti. The revolt against the Romans by Spartacus was nearly successful. I would like Kanye to work in a cotton field in let's say Kazakstan (where they do have slaves who are white) for a year. That's what I admire about the late Christopher Hitchens. Unlike Sean Hannity, Hitchens did get waterboarded. After that experience, he fully acknowledged that waterboarding is torture.

If slavery began in 1619 here in the USA. Saying blacks were slaves for 400 years would mean that slavery not only is still going on but the 400th year mark is 2019. Simple math 1619+400=2019. Now as history tells us slavery here in the Usa was abolished in 1865 which would mean we have chosen to be slaves since then. Again simple math. 1865-2019=-154 so we have spent living in slavery since it was abolished for 154 Years!!! It's time to free ourselves. Love Everyone

People need to feel the way they do about Trump based on their life experiences not Kanyes. If Kanye thinks race is still not an issue look at the starbucks situation that just happened. If that was two white men or Kanye and Drake they would not have been arrested. That is the point of view he doesn't think about.
@sonic2batt6 жыл бұрын
Going by that, the situation that happened in Starbucks happened to two black guys out of millions. I've never been kicked out of Starbucks. Adding on to that, people feel the way they do about Trump due to media coverage, most people have not ever been in contact or near Trump, nor has he affected their lives personally.

I think he meant that the history of slavery was been pressed on blacks for over 400 years the same jews are pressed about the holocaust, and that it unites one race together because of a struggle, but that also when he said "it was all of yall?" I think he asking a rhetorical question about all blacks bringing up slavery when not that many were. Idk feel free to give opinions.

Goku Fanboy yes I did. If he thinks there weren’t slave rebellions he is as crazy as he talks. The slaves were out gunned and had no lay of the land it would be like going to a gun fight with a pillow any weapon they may have had had to be used up close like knives, pitch forks etc. I didn’t have an issue about being a free thinker I am not one of those black people that vow my allegiance to the Democratic Party. Kanye did not explain himself very well. If you make a statement about slavery being a choice (and he’s not the first to say that) back it up with your facts as to why you believe that. He made a bold statement then left it hanging. Explain yourself and break it down, Kanye.... make people think 💭 🤔

Rooty Kazooty Crazy because why? Because he voted for Trump and made a statement that some disagree with? Kanye has been Controversial over the years for various reasons. Voting for someone you don’t like doesn’t make them crazy. Making a statement someone disagrees with does not make you crazy.
@GracielaDixon6 жыл бұрын
He made a factually incorrect, simplistic statement, that reveals his ignorance of history... bold or not, there are other facts to support the notion that he struggles with mental health issues, completely unrelated to his politics.
@Lysa_Lynn6 жыл бұрын
Graciela Dixon, MD I know he does struggle with that and those comments are unrelated to his statement however I have heard this argument before with thought-provoking reasons as to why they believe it could have been a choice and All I’m saying is that if someone’s going to put something so bold out there I feel like they really need to break it down as to why they think that way
@nejolo95636 жыл бұрын
Alysa He cannot break it down because choice within such a chaotic and oppressive condition would be death. Now to a madman & a priviledged hind sight fantasy explorer there must be a multitude of options. Perhaps if these enslaved people would have taken a cappuccino break and pondered their options while looking upon the autumnal foliage outside of their coffee shop, they would have figured it out. Alas, no coffee shops in the 16th century, No Doctor Who’s, No Time Machines, No Teleportation.

Are we ignoring Kanye's appeal to current black Americans to break their bonds of mental slavery, the entire point of his chagrin, or are we using the most disingenuous interpretation of his words possible? Being a Rap artist, shouldn't Kanye's colorful language be given as generous an interpretation as his music? No one here thinks or believe's Kanye thinks slavery in the Untied States lasted for 400 years, do they? 400 years accounts for the time since slavery began in the United States till today and the assumption Kanye is making is that some black people in the United States today are still enslaved mentally by the ghost of past atrocities. Kanye is offering the key to the chains that hold you within Plato's cave and that key is forgiveness, which will require free thought because it's an idea widely rejected in the modern political narrative. The victim mentality put forth by the left is the very lock which binds your chains.

He should not make his eg so vague because Slaves in Jamaica uprised against slave owners and slaughter even burn down property of slave master. England send troops to calm situation but slaves over power the soliders and won their freedom. This applies to slaves in Hati as well. Some tribes are natural warriors while some are passive, naturally. The slaves that were natural warriors did fight and attempted to escaped or escaped. Overall, his claim is based off mostly the expose hypothesis but he should also recognized the in between, and hidden facts.

Haiti and Jamaica were colonies. Jamaicans were not taking over Great Britain in Great Britain, Haitians weren't taking over France in France they did a revolt half way across the world. It would take around 2-6 months for a ship to travel from Europe to the Caribbean to stop an uprising. Also Haiti was helped by Spain and Great Britain in their revolt,they supplied arms, ammunition, food, who came to help Africans in the US ?
@expandingdome62506 жыл бұрын
One possible reason why slave rebellions were more successful in the islands is because the 13 Colonies comprised a larger territory and blacks were split up and spread out far away from eachother. Also White population had far greater numbers and firearms etc. On the islands, I know in Haiti for example the slaves outnumbered the slave-owners. Could be food for thought.
