This is a mutation of the pro-opiomelanocortin gene (called POMC for short) where 25% of all labradors have significant parts of the gene sequence missing! This means that labradors with this mutation experience symptoms such as increased risk of obesity, and increased food motivation. The most concerning part of this mutation is that it is also connected to alerting the brain that the body has been fed, so many individuals with the mutation will not feel full even after having a whole meal! So far this mutation has only been observed in labradors and it's close relative; the flat coated retriever!
