I can confirm that it is called that to avoid conflict with The Lost Levels, as even to this day SMB2/Super Mario USA is still one of the only mainstream mario titles that was released in the US before spreading over to japan instead of the other way around. It's a pretty interesting story and a pretty fun rabbithole to go down, but if you just look at the difference in release dates it is pretty clear why Japanese Nintendo had to change the name, since by the time SMB2 was released in Japan it was already an entire year after the release of SMB3.

1727 looks more like "Evil Circle Squared Game", but the title is severely misspelled ("Evil" is "malvado", not "malbado", and "Squared"/"Squad" is horrifically misspelled). "Squid Game" is titled "El Juego del Calamar" in Hispanoamerica, which is as straight a translation as it gets.
