I think that level meant that you had to count the Goombas still inside the box. The Japanese there was a bit ambiguous. It read literally just as the translation said: "How many goombas? Please only count the goombas".

The description made sense for the last section where they threw in the other guys, but yea, could've been a bit more clear. My guess would've also been to count the Goombas that made it across, like Panga initially did. A little confusing that it's actually the opposite of what you need to do. Still a cute level, though!

I’m 99% sure it’s based off the brain age game where people enter and exit a house/bus (can’t remember the details as it’s been ages since I’ve played it) and you have to find out how many people are in the house at the end.

Level creators are nowadays too lazy to even beat their own level before uploading it. And there obviously be no point beating the level the intended way when you can take the dev exit instead. That is lazy and pis-poor level design.
