Yeah, quarantine and customs are because once an invasive species is here... it's nearly impossible to get rid of, and it will decimate ecosystems. Not worth the risk at all to let someone keep a pound of fresh strawberries or whatever tf they pack in a bag when they travel internationally.

7:40 AHHHHGH! I was driving a tractor/trailer for Schneider National one night through Buffalo and somehow ended up on the Peace Bridge over into Canada. When I got on the other side and spoke with the customs agent, the first words out of my mouth were, "Sorry, I have no business whatsoever driving into Canada. All of a sudden I was on the exit to the Peace Bridge and couldn't safely abort." The agent chuckled and said something along the lines of, "It's alright. It happens all the time." After a brief delay, they had an escort vehicle take me around a gated access road and get pointed back into the States. Total class act on the part of Canadian Customs. 👍

I think that while they decide how to charge and punish the person who tried to smuggle those birds, the person should be put in a tube, one where he can’t move his arms or legs, can’t see out, has no light, no food or water and the tube gets thrown around periodically like he’s in, say, a piece of luggage. I would hope the justice system would be VERY CAREFUL in their decision and take LOTS OF TIME.😡

@@timarmington8142 I think it's more that the US dollar is currency used worldwide and most drug transactions are probably conducted in US dollars. Hey Canadian border guys - if someone has just a 1 week vacation and it takes them a day to get there and a day to get back, then guess what? They're only going to have a few days on site to do their sightseeing, and for you to say that "it makes no sense" then it's really none of your business. Some of us don't have the luxury of having massive amounts of free time, and if we want to spend what little we have seeing things in your country, you should keep your opinions to yourself.

Not very long ago crossing into Canada from the United States took about 10 seconds and required no passport. Not many years ago the company I worked for flew daily shuttle service for employees on a private jet between the U.S. and Toronto. Entering Canada involved taxiing to a little hut where the Canada Customs rep poked his head inside and asked if everyone was a U.S. citizen. That was it. I wonder what has happened to make crossing into Canada such a confrontational and unpleasant experience.

I've heard from other Canadians that after 9/11, it got hard. Every time I went to visit family there on more than one occasion, they will harass whomever they want. Some are pretty good. I always ran into the A hole on a power trip.

Hundred of years ago people seal the business by handshaking and word of promise because back then people took integrity and honesty seriously. Border crossing is all about national security and environmental protection especially nations like New Zealand, Australia that heavily relies on agriculture. I do not think this is unpleasant if I am a law abiding and have done little research on the destination I'll be going to. I am actually very pleasant coming back to US from international travel because the security is tight (not tight enough actually due to Americans like to bitch about everything). Plus, I have Global Entry that allows me enter the states without any security check at all.

Nope, they did have border guards back then. There are some differences between US/Canada border crossing rules in the 1970s and today. In the 1970s, before the US/Canada Free Trade Agreement, NAFTA, USMCA and WTO, customs duties on imported goods were even more important than today. Also in the 1970s, both countries had relatively relaxed ID requirements for travellers. A passport wasn't compulsory. Frequently, an oral declaration of your citizenship and place of residence was accepted by the border guards. Lastly, in the 1970s there wasn't quite as much anxiety about international terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling and money laundering through the US/Canada border.

You have to file for a permit to transport handguns through Canada, and receive approval BEFORE you get there. You can't just show up at the border and declare that you have handguns. If the guy had done his research, and filed his paperwork beforehand, they'd have been allowed through with the guns. As to "why" the Canadian law is like that, I'm sure I don't know.

Fully agree: but do understand that cultures are different. Police in these countries are extremely corrupt and are known to do nothing about reports or may actually get paid to look the other way. These guys came from a country like that.. I grew up in a country like that and in many cases it’s an absolutely waste of time to file a report. So it’s much way to sit with the person who scammed you and make a deal than to go through a waste of time process and lose on both ends.. if you have never lived in that type of environment it’s hard to understand. But overall I do agree that they should have filed it.
