If the NBA wants to cut down on injuries, they either have to cut down the number of games, increase time between games, and get rid of back to backs or somehow change the rules to incentivize post play. The combo of high pace and lots of space are having players travel more distance over the whole season than ever before. The 80s had high pace, but offense was still post-oriented, which meant less high speed collisions. The early 2010s had a lot of space, but the pace was lower so there were fewer possessions and less transition.

Players get hurt more often because it’s twice as many possessions as they used to have 10-45 years ago because of the pace and 3 point shooting .
@Johnsmith-mw6pt17 күн бұрын
@@sg-duwap_yt8209 definitely has nothing to do with that. It has to do with the fact that these guys are conditioning NON STOP and their bodies are constantly gassed and they play extremely fast. Jokic is the best example of a guy who never gets hurt because he plays slow, and by the looks of him he doesn’t kill it in the gym non stop.
@sg-duwap_yt820917 күн бұрын
@ If you don’t think that having more possessions in a game increases the chances of a player getting hurt then you’re delusional 🤣. Mikal is in shape and has never missed a game so you bringing up Jokic doesn’t change the fact. More possessions increases the chances for more points, rebounds, assists, blocks, turnovers, and INJURIES .
@SkiLILs17 күн бұрын
@sg-duwap_yt8209 but they're playing less minutes, less physical contact (wear and tear injuries occur) and there's more stoppage time/delays which means they're getting more rest during games. Not to mention they're not exerting themselves like it's game 7 finals, they're pacing themselves for the regular season. Terrible argument.
@sg-duwap_yt820917 күн бұрын
@@SkiLILs Most injuries are non contact and players are doing more running and jumping in those minutes that they play because it’s more possessions.
@SkiLILs17 күн бұрын
@@sg-duwap_yt8209 they're jogging up and down the court shooting early 3s or creating some play at the top of the key with the majority of players sitting behind the 3 poing line. That's today's basketball in a nutshell with some ball movement looking for an open shooter. Freak injuries can occur in any sport but they're less prevalent in non contact sports, especially sports where players aren't physically playing through nagging injuries anymore. Think of it as a callous. You're right to say injuries in today's league are non contact, the opposite of what they used to be when players played with a higher level intensity and the game was restricted to inside the 3 point line. These guys rarely contest drives, that's where jumping happens with the most intensity. Not jumping to contest a midrange or deep shot. Again, ridiculous talking points. The real reason is $$$$ NBA is a business and players make so much money they don't need to prove themselves on a nightly basis, they get paid regardless.
