Pankaj drastically changed my life with this one article about new book of Niall Ferguson. His idea that the subcontinent suffered because of Britain and it's policies had not been so clearly addressed before. I was pro western ideology all my life and felt the same disorientation he talks about, until I read the article and then adopted my own eastern roots. I am indebted. Massive respect to you sir. From Pakistan.

You need to read Naipaul to know that he copies him in style and thought.

@@BholeVI won't go so far. He is certainly have a naipualian way of looking. But saying he copies him is a bit too far fetched. You should check out the email exchange between pankaj and nikhil. Google the painful sum of things

He mentioned mention Gandhi's ideals and growth in same sentence. I came here just reading manu Joseph on conditions of urban life in India and he blamed it in way gandhi for talking about villages , villages economy, cleanliness yet gandhi ignored urban areas....one in a way indicating that India left it's leaders ideals, other is accusing those ideals (at least in economy) the reason for poverty everywhere including urban infrastructure..... Take into account Pankaj Mishra live in foreign land and write about India and manu Joseph live in India and constantly wrote about it.

Mishra has polarized view of the effects of Global politics and Globalization and many more . Mishra finds it necessary and impressive that Spain and France and other European countries have not had rupture with their past, old parents, cultural and tradition; while Indians do. While Mishra draws a comparison, he sticks to the Ideas of an Independent India only but when we're trying to mend things (A decolonisation process of postcolonial countries ) and blur the boundaries in every spectrum, somehow it becomes un-cool for the Globe. Ofcourse there is the language gap in Indian homes but Indians make great efforts to balance it. This is somehow not cool to put it in public for Mishra I guess.

His new book AGE OF ANGER, is kickass... As in terms of getting to know the rise of the Right, failure of the Left, and that there is no difference between the two sides - who both serve late capitalism.

Can modernization be talked about only in English?
