Panna National Park is a national park located in Panna and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh in India. It has an area of 542.67 km2. It was declared in 1994 as the twenty-second Tiger reserve of India and the fifth in Madhya Pradesh.
In 2009, the entire tiger population had been eliminated by poaching with the collusion of forest department officials. But after lots of efforts of the forest department of our state, tigers are again roaming in the forest and there are around 40+ tigers in the area, as per the survey of April 2017.
Pandav Falls is a waterfall in the Panna district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. About 30 meters (98 ft) high, it is located on a tributary of the Ken River. The Ken River is one of the major rivers of the Bundelkhand region of central India and flows through two states, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. It is a tributary of the Yamuna.
The falls are named after the legendary Pandava brothers of the epic poem Mahabharata, who supposedly visited this area. Remains of caves and shrines that commemorate this legend can be seen around the pool below.
The Government of India along with the Government of Madhya Pradesh and Government of Uttar Pradesh have planned to link the Ken River with Betwa River. This involves the construction of 283m long Daudhan Dam.
The project aims to transfer excess water from Ken basin to the Betwa basin thus provide water access to the drought-prone region of Bundelkhand.
This construction will cause inundation of 400 hectares of land of 4300 hectares Panna Tiger reserve. Environmentalists are afraid that this will adversely affect the population of tigers in the region.
