Panorama City is a neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles, California, in the San Fernando Valley. It has a generally young age range as well as the highest population density in the Valley. Ethnically, more than half the population was born abroad, a higher percentage than Los Angeles as a whole.

I remember PC was considered 'upscale' There was a Macy's, a Robinson's May, Sears and Montgomery Ward. Believe it or not a Black Angus was there. Sizzler and Red Lobster also occupied the area. Panorama Mall was the place to go. You had nice independent hardware stores along Van Nuys blvd. You had movie theaters and Chi Chis pizza was also close by. The skating rink was a bowling alley at one time. And the Indoor Swap meet used to have nice items.

I lived there in the late 80's & early 90's & it was a drug infested hood. The Earthquake in 1993 & some rare good police 🚔 work have made it slightly better. Lots of newer buildings replaced the old ones where the druggies lived. It's an ok 👍 place these days.

5:37 if you’d drive left you’d see the building I live in😳anyways it’s true the rent is pretty cheap here compared to the rest of LA but if u watched the video you can see it isn’t the best looking. We live in the hood here and most of us still can barely afford the rent even if it is cheap. For example, my family lives in a two bedroom apartment with 6 people. My grandma actually owns this apartment but my family can’t afford to live anywhere else so we live with her.The rent is 1,600 and my grandma and dad split the amount plus water,electricity,phone bills, etc. there are too many of us living here in this city so don’t come😂also I didn’t even know we had the most population in the valley💀

I live here too. It’s a good neighborhood in some areas and is pretty cheap to live. Great they added ALDI because we can save some money on groceries too. Anyone else been to aldi?
@slowtony2
@slowtony2 3 жыл бұрын
It took me a while, but I've gotten addicted to ALDI. When they first opened I did a Yelp review that knocked the lack of a real produce refrigerator. They quickly added the long case by the entrance. Friendly staff. They were wiping down carts with sanitizing wipes at the height of the pandemic. It's still my choice for a less crowded store with good air circulation, social distancing and cashier screens.

@Trevor how? If you look up the statistics panorama city majority of population that live there are Central Americans- that means gautemala, El Salvador , houndras. A few Mexicans but that was back years ago, then the Mexicans started to look for a better neighborhood to raise their families in i day it because I know about 3 people who came out of panorama city and only lived there for 3 years. One of them her parents bought a house in slymar after she turned 4 years old.

Strangely accurate video. Just a few corrections, PanCit has the highest population density in the Valley, not the highest population. That distinction would belong to the neighborhood of Van Nuys I believe. Also never trust Google Maps' boundaries because they are wrong, you actually officially entered the neighborhood at exactly 5:11 in the video. Other than that yeah, wow, everything's just about right. Largely blue collar and is a pretty Filipino and Hispanic neighborhood. Thanks for checking us out!

I remember going thru blythe st and cross the railroad tracks to go to school every morning and after getting harassed by the gangsters lol but we stood our ground lol. This virtual drive brings back alot of fond memories with my family too. I still remember chase park and parthenia park where we used to play tennis alot. Used to go to that mall back then. Fact check. Panorama City is NOT the highest population in the Valley. Glendale is with 200,000 even though I don't consider Glendale part of the Valley. Then comes Van Nuys over 100, 000 , and North Hollywood with about 80,000. Panorama City is at about 69, 000. The problem with PC, is its too small and cramped. Too many people cramped up in a small area. Good luck if you only speak English...

Do any white people still live in Panorama City?
@slowtony2
@slowtony2 3 жыл бұрын
One of every 10 people in Panorama City are white. Population in ZIP Code 91402 from city-data.com is 72,364 (2017 estimates). The ethnic breakdown is 76.0% Latino, 14.8 % Asian, 10.3% White, 2.8% Black, 2.4% All Others. The San Fernando Valley was long known for being a white suburb. Many of the white families who moved away from Panorama City were not comfortable with diversity. I grew up in Pasadena in the 1940s and early 50s. It was not poor, but it was diverse. My mother went to school with Jackie Robinson at PJC. I learned altar service in a Spanish speaking church. Then we moved to Santa Barbara, a town more connected to its early Spanish history than to its Anglo settlement. I went to USC in 1960 and lived in downtown LA when I went to work. When SAFECO Insurance moved to Panorama City (now the Kaiser North campus), so did I. When the cheap suburban office workers moved away, so did SAFECO. (I ended up in a big data center in Chatsworth.) Plenty of us white dinosaurs have stayed. Ron Collins, who is pastor of the little church in North Hills at 01:13 in the video, still manages the Panorama Mall. He joined with me and many others to get the Panorama City Neighborhood Council certified between 2005 and 2007. (It was an uphill fight with the city.) Thinking of those days, one of the changes that is just as notable as white flight is the exodus of black families. Our new Neighborhood Council soon had Walter Clarke, the original pastor of Panorama Baptist Church. Panorama Baptist on Woodman was a jumping, lively church with its own grade school. Then many of the families it served moved away. This has also been true in Pacoima, Lakeview Terrace and the northeast Valley foothills. When I talk with the older homeowners, they say that their kids just don't want to come back and live here. Same with my own son, who raised my grandkids in Agoura Hills and now lives in a horse property in Simi Valley. Honestly, I find all-white suburbs weird. It's more interesting to live with different cultures. Our Filipino families are typically college educated. They are drawn here by Kaiser Permanente and Mission Community Hospital for work and by St. Genevieve for their kids' school. Recently many Armenian families have discovered that our homes are much more affordable than Glendale, there is an Armenian school nearby in North Hills, and housing values are rising. When the long-empty Panorama Tower was rebuilt as a residential building, it leased up almost immediately because of its spectacular views of the Valley. Another huge rental complex will be going up just South of it. Light rail down Van Nuys Boulevard will be traffic hell, but it will also bring more development and gentrification. We just looked at a new office and commercial building that's planned for the parking lot North of the old Panorama Theater at Nordhoff and Van Nuys. The owners are building it because that's going to be a light rail stop. Thinking of the old Panorama Theater, Hopsin is standing on its roof in one of his signature music videos. He was still growing up here when his dad, Otis Hopson, served with me on one of our early Neighborhood Council Boards. For those of you who want to preserve your unflattering image of Panorama City, check out "Hopsin - Panorama City - feat. Joeytee". It's linked below. Also note his smile in the last frame and how much fun he was obviously having. Just like my son, he's probably not going to come back here to live any time soon. Although our town has a future, it's just not cool enough for our kids. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYKUfpWoptd4oKM

@@okayyeahhhh2339 Its June 2022 and I feel safe in Panorama City. The areas of single family homes East of Van Nuys Boulevard are very safe. There are hundreds of homes clustered together on small lots. On the West side of Van Nuys Boulevard, the orginial large "ranchette" lots have become aparments. As with any area of apartments, a few bad actors move in now and then. It's still pretty safe. Even on Blythe Street West of Van Nuys (the city's first gang injunction area), where there is still no street parking, I feel comfortable parking in The Plant shopping center and walking down Blythe Street to Casa Esperanza or Cardenas Park. The occasional street crime we do have seems to come from people walking North or South on Van Nuys Boulevard and presenting a target of opportunity for bad actors driving by. Walk on side streets if you can. Things get a litle sketchier West of the Pacoima Wash (which runs next to Sepulveda Middle School and the Sepulveda Recreation Center). There are two active street gangs over there, one on each side of Sepulveda Boulevard. That is technically North Hills East (formerly Sepulveda). Whenever there is a gang-related incident there, the good cops (respectful but no-nonsense) at LAPD Mission Division tell the press that it happened "in the Witches Hat". That is a nickname for the 91402 ZIP code's wide bottom and pointy top. From a public relations standpoint, those reports are really unhelpful to our outside reputation. (Although I live in Panorama City, I was President of the North Hills East Neighborhood Council for a few years. I am also very comfortable walking around in North Hills East. I'm just being honest that it is a little more complicated a neighborhood than Panorama City.) I don't know where you are planninng on going to school. We have a Metro bus line 167 that runs North to Cal State Nortridge and South to Valley College. It's about a half hour ride to each school. The bus is very convenient, especially if your car happens to become uncooperative. East of us, just East of the 170 (Hollywood) Freeway and North of Roscoe Boulevard, is the East Valley Skills Center. It is run by the LAUSD Division of Adult and Career Education and offers many great classes. Most Asians in Panorama City are Filipino. Many work in the health field. The majority of our Filipinos are Roman Catholic. They are strong supporters of the Saint Genevieve Church and schools at Roscoe and Hazeltine. If you are looking for a fundamental Christian congregation, you might check out Panorama Baptist Church on Woodman Avenue. It dates from the time when we had a large African American community. I haven't been there for a while. I do know that Panorama Baptist has a long history of enthusiastic services and a tradition of warmly welcoming new members. Most of our Asian restaurants are either Filipino or Thai (with good chices in both). North of us, in Mission Hills, just West of Sepulveda on Chatsworth Street, is Kop Jai Lai Restaurant. It specializes in Laotian food and (for those who can't take the heat) Laotian influenced Thai dishes. I haven't been there yet but it is highly rated. At the other end of the scale (still good food but not so elite) you need to drive down Van Nuys Boulevard, South of the railroad tracks, and check out OK Chinese. It's on the East side of the street, just North of Valerio Street. Good Chinese with a Latino understanding of the need for quantity. Two items with rice and / or chow mein in a Panda Express sized box for about $10 -- except they fill that little box so high with food that they need to force the lid down for it to click into place. Always makes two meals for me. I hope all the rumors of crime from non-residents won't scare you off. In today's era, crime is everywhere. It's often perpetrated by people who don't live in the same neighborhood. Panorama City has a secret. None of us are very rich. I see many more reports of crime in the Nextdoor app that come from areas more upscale than Panorama City. The bad guys tend to target areas where they think "rich people live". I think they've figured out that isn't us. :))
