Pantera hailed from Texas... formed by brothers Dimebag Darrell (guitar) and Vinnie Paul (drums) were half-hispanic (their mom) and their dad was country artist Jerry Abbott... Sadly, both brothers (and Jerry Abbott) have passed away - Dimebag Darrell (Darrell Lance Abbott) was killed in 2004 by a deranged gunman who targeted him and his brother... his big brother Vinnie Paul (Paul Vincent Abbott) passed away in 2018 from heart failure. And yes, extreme metal concerts are known to be explosive w/ mosh pits raging... Pantera was one of the Kings of Metal 🤘🤘from 1990 to 2001... And Pantera is Spanish for 'Panther'...(U knew that!) Dimebag Darrell (guitar) and Vinnie Paul (drums) were teens when they formed Pantera in the early 80's w/ friend Rex Brown (bass)... their dad Jerry Abbott owned a studio and let his sons party like rockstars & record 4 indie albums there... They emulated 80's hair metal bands at first but after Phil Anselmo (vocals) joined in 1987 on their 4th album, Pantera decided to go for a heavier sound and look (that u saw in this video) and were signed by 1990. 'Cowboys from Hell' (the album) was released in 1990 and Pantera introduced themselves to the world by touring hard and partying harder... Their 2nd major album 'Vulgar display of power' in 1992 was even heavier and put Pantera on the top of most metal fans' list...eventually selling 2x platinum (2 million copies) in the US. Rather than try to appeal to a mainstream audience like Metallica, Pantera went even more aggressive on their 1994 album 'Far beyond driven'... which went to #1 in the US and sold platinum... Pantera was the metal of the 90's that still played arenas in a decade dominated by grunge and alternative rock... They saved the heavy metal scene at the time. 'The great southern trendkill' was released in 1996 and sold gold (half million copies) but Pantera had problems... Vocalist Phil Anselmo was hampered by a back injury and was abusing drugs and he+++n to cope w/ Pantera's relentless touring schedule and the distance grew between the frontman and the hard-partying brothers Dimebag & Vinnie... Pantera's last album was 'Reinventing the steel' in 2000... Pantera played their final shows in 2001 just before the 9/11 attacks. In 2003, Phil Anselmo was unwilling to come back to Pantera and bassist Rex Brown was also reluctant to return - so, Dimebag and Vinnie launched a new band Damageplan and released their 1 album 'New found power' in 2004... Late in '04, Damageplan was finishing up a tour in Columbus, Ohio when a deranged gunman broke into the club the were playing in ... he shot & killed Dimebag Darrell (and 3 others) before police ended his rampage... A devastated Vinnie Paul honored his brother and returned w/ a new band Hellyeah! in 2007 and returned to playing drums on tour... Vinnie Paul died in 2018 from heart failure; he refused to reconcile w/ Phil Anselmo before his death (R.I.P.) In 2022, Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown relaunched Pantera as a touring band only... Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist Zakk Wylde (who was close friends w/ Dimebag Darrell) signed up to play guitar... while Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante (who was friends w/ Pantera and a huge fan) signed up to play Vinnie Paul's beats... They have plans to tour into 2025.

This seemed to be your most genuine reaction yet. Your transparency when sharing your story in the beginning was insightful and vulnerable. But I'd like to suggest some Guns-N-Roses "It's So Easy" official music video. It's the first song they released off their debut album 'Appetite for Destruction' (best selling debut of all time) it was released in the mid eighties and would introduce the World to two of the most iconic Rockstars to walk the planet. Axl Rose, the lead singer has a six octive range and was known for being a controversial figure through out the years. SLASH the lead guitarist is a Phenom that easily lands as one of the best of his generation. With his signature top hat and mysterious image... He is one of the most recognizable figures in music. If you need to attach a genre to them other than ROCK-'N'-ROLL... We referred to it as Sleaze Rock. Keep digging in your in for an awesome ride. BTW... Dimebag Darrell Abbot was arguably one of the best metal guitarists of all time. Despite the rough exterior he was one of the kindest human beings also. A common misconception of heavy metal artists and fans is that they are aggressive and hateful people. The reality is most metal artists and fans have some of the kindest hearts of anyone in the world. Heavy metal music isn't about lashing out and being aggressive towards the world. It is a way to channel all the evil and horror and sadness in life and express how it makes you feel in a positive way such as music. It is also such a tight-knit community because heavy metal lets you know it's okay to not feel okay.
@smftv27 күн бұрын
Cemetery Gates is an early in the catalogue "must listen" Pantera song, but there's two "must's". One must never listen to the music video for it, it's a radio edit and chopped up, you'll miss out on the true nature & full composition of the song. Always be weary of radio edits, they've been ruining songs for decades. Go for the album version! And rock on! 🤘

Yes. These shows are just like this video. I was 15 when I went t to go see them on this tour. I grew up with hip hop & Spanish music since I’m Hispanic but growing up in the NYC area we were exposed to alot of different things. Also my 15 year older brother listened to metal so I liked it cause of him. My boys in Queens thought I was crazy for listening to this type of music lol in the 90s there were several hip hop & metal groups that played together. It was a different time. I miss the good old days of punching someone in the face in the pit. Sometimes a brow would catch my elbow 😂

Trust me, stmphonic metal may be up your alley. There are lots of genres in rock and metal, some more hip hop, some more orchestral, some more slow and others fast. Pantera was one of the earliest groove metal bands. While originally a glam metal band with a different singer, they changed their sound to emphasize the "money riff" in their music. Anybody giving metal a chance get my respect. It is one of the most underappreciated genres due to assumptions of negative influences.

Pantera was an amazing band that gave the masses countless good music. Phil Anselmo ( lead vocals and in Pantera timeline the 2nd vocalist) Dimebag Darrell Abbott ( lead guitar and R.I.P.) Vinnie Paul ( drums, Dime's brother and R.I.P.) and Rex Brown ( bass and in the 80s was known as Rex Rocker)

They originally formed in 1981 as a glam metal band and released three albums in the mid-1980s with lead vocalist Terry Glaze. During 1986, New Orleans native and then-eighteen year old Phil Anselmo was hired as the vocalist. The Abbott brothers officially disbanded Pantera in November 2003 The Abbot brothers (drums and guitar) have passed. Darrel "Dimebag" Abbot was shot in Columbus Ohio (December 8, 2004 (aged 38)), and his brother Vinnie died in his sleep (June 22, 2018 (aged 54)).

Welcome to the creators of the genre we call Power Metal. Pantera is one of the best power groove bands of the early 90's era when Cowboys From Hell was released. When Grunge moved in and shut down all the hair metal bands of the 80's, Pantera who interestingly enough was considered a hair metal band back when they started in the mid 80's, but did not really break into the mainstream until CFH came out, trailblazed their way into the 90's and forged their own road keeping hardcore metal alive. Us metal heads jumped onto the Pantera train and rode that bullet right on into the end of the century. But, unfortunately the members parted ways and formed other bands but their legacy lives on forever. I'll let you find out about what happened to Dime on your own as I'm sure others will mention it in their comments. Thank you for being honest on who you are and your upbringing. I appreciate that and totally understand now. As the Carpenter's once sang, "We've only just begun. " Looking forward to more of your reaction videos. Definitely dive deeper into Pantera as I am sure you will enjoy their entire catalog. 🤘

@BPhillips2000Ай бұрын
4:55 That's called 'panning'. Pantera, like pretty much every rock & metal band, utilized what's known as 'double-tracking'. Basically, Dimebag (the guitarist; RIP) would record his guitar parts twice: the first recording would get panned hard to one side (left or right), the second would get panned hard to the opposite side (right or left). This was mainly done to make the guitars sound 'fuller' (as well as hide any minor errors made while recording; the mics really do pick up everything), but when one side is muted briefly, it also allowed for setup moments like what you're pointing out that create cool dynamics within the song without sacrificing the intensity...
@BPhillips2000Ай бұрын
8:05 Beware: There are different types of mosh pits, depending on what band you're going to see. If you're going to pull the trigger on going to a rock/metal show, I would STRONGLY recommend not standing front and center at first, where the mosh pit generally happens. People get punched, they get kicked, bones get broken, teeth get knocked out (I once saw a guy do a front flip while stage diving, ended up putting the heel of his Doc Marten into someone else's face. It was not pretty) Stay near the back where the mixing board is or at the bar (the two places Security generally won't allow moshing) & observe from a distance (or if the venue has a second deck, like a balcony? That'd be even better). See what the vibe is, & if you feel comfortable 'wading' into that mess...

Pantera crowds, particularly in their home area around Dallas and Ft worth Texas, were a whole thing of their own. They are one of my top 3. My parents are metal heads, so I've been head banging since the womb. I was the only 8 year old singing the lyrics to their next album when it came out, and my father is in one of their live vids. All four members are considered great in their realm, but vinny and dime (the Abbott brothers), drums and guitar, especially stood out. I'd suggest cemetery gates (long version and the actual full album song), domination (live in moscow), and floods for a good look at their diversity in songs. We're actually coming up on the 20th anniversary of dimes murder, December 8th, where someone who was mentally unfit shot him and several others while they were playing on stage at a club, and vinny died of heart failure in 2018.
