My wife Deb, my soulmate for 41 years passed away February 20th 2022 from cancer. When we first met she was all about AC/DC & Black Sabbath. Through the years I expanded her mind to include the most awesome heavy metal. Pantera was one of her favorites! She also loved Dave Mustaine and Eric AK. Live on Among the Stars babe I'll be with you again someday..." you left me incomplete all alone as the memories still remain"( from Cemetery Gates)

Lyrics! Reverend, he turned to me Without a tear in his eyes Nothing new for him to see I didn't ask him why I will remember The love our souls had sworn to make Now I watch the falling rain All my mind can see now is your Well, I guess you took my youth And gave it all away Like the birth of a new-found joy This love would end in rage And when she died I couldn't cry The pride was in my soul You left me incomplete All alone as the memories now unfold Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the cemetery gates Sometimes when I'm alone I wonder aloud If you're watching over me Some place far abound I must reverse my life I can't live in the past Then set my soul free Belong to me at last Through all those complex years I thought I was alone I didn't care to look around And make this world my own And when she died I should've cried And spared myself some pain You left me incomplete All alone as the memories still remain The way we were The chance to save my soul And my concern is now in vain Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the cemetery gates The way we were The chance to save my soul And my concern is now in vain Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the cemetery gates Gates Gates

I met all the members of Metallica back in 92 in Shreveport Louisiana and my mom almost had them talked into coming to our house for dinner but their manager came out of the tour bus and told them they couldn't because one their bus wouldn't fit in the little town I lived in and they already had a press briefing they were committed to going to. I was heartbroken I would have been a God in my neighborhood if they had, plus my mom God rest her soul Lars gave me a set of his drum sticks and my mom made me give them back to him because as my mom said he needed them to play the concert with, I was angry with her for a very long time for that, but at the same time if she hadn't stopped when I seen their bus I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet all of them and they were all very cool and down to earth. In college I had this roommate who always played metal (he still is one of the best metal guitarists I know). He was always playing crazy stuff with his 5th chords and bottom 3 string hammer-ons and pull offs on our acoustic guitars. My playing was more rock & blues. It was always a laugh about our musical difference. One day he starts playing this melodic riff, so I turn around and take a look, it's a beautiful passage based on an F#m. So I ask "Wow! What is that song?", he grinned, looked at me out of the corner of his eye and said "Cemetery Gates".

In my honest opinion, this is probably the best Heavy Metal song EVER written. It has guitar riffs with more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box, high end vocals in key, catchy choruses, meaningful verses, and a bad-ass solo by the man that made metal in 90's cool, so soulful and groovy.

They are great songs, but when I think of heavy metal perfection, I think of songs such as Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden, The Sentinel by Judas Priest and Cemetary Gates by Pantera. If someone disputes my claim, I don't get offended and ask what their opinion is, because I actually want to hear that song, just like when I asked Gina DelVecchio what her idea of the perfect metal song was. Sad I know. A lot of good rock stars have passed on. I was in shock when Kurt Cobain died along with Chris Cornell and then Chester Bennington and many others. Pantera is by far the best metal band there is in my opinion.I actually met Pantera at an autograph signing in Mountain View California in the early 90s. I still have the autographed picture I gave it to my daughter to arrange my son's service and put it on display. My son Michael was shot multiple times and murdered last May of 2021 in New Mexico. I loved him more than words can describe. He loved Pantera it was his favorite band.

Metal bands do the best ballads ever. I'm 52 I was the oldest of 3 brothers until last year. I got em both into metal day one pretty much. My middle brother died in 11 from an asthma attack, he was 36. My little brother last year from fentanyl poisoning, he was 32. He had been lost since our brother died, saying he wanted to go and be with him and such. I hope they found each other. As for me the music is all I have now, I am the last of my line. My acceptance and peace with their loss has eluded me so far and it's a good chance it always will... the oldest goes first not last, point is, tell each other what they mean to you and that you love them. You literally never know when you may not get another chance..

"Cemetery Gates" Reverend reverend is this some conspiracy? Crucified for no sins An image beneath me What's within our plans for life It all seems so unreal I'm a man cut in half in this world Left in my misery... The reverend he turned to me Without a tear in his eyes It's nothing new for him to see I didn't ask him why I will remember The love our souls had Sworn to make Now I watch the falling rain All my mind can see Now is your Well I guess You took my youth I gave it all away Like the birth of a New-found joy This love would end in rage And when she died I couldn't cry The pride within my soul You left me incomplete All alone as the memories now unfold. Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the Cemetery gates Sometimes when I'm alone I wonder aloud If you're watching over me Some place far abound I must reverse my life I can't live in the past Then set my soul free Belong to me at last Through all those Complex years I thought I was alone I didn't care to look around And make this world my own And when she died I should've cried and spared myself some pain... You left me incomplete All alone as the memories still remain The way we were The chance to save my soul And my concern is now in vain Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the cemetery gates The way we were The chance to save my soul And my concern is now in vain Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the cemetery gates! Gates! Gates!
