All they do is repeat the same handful of riffs over and over. I'm sure many decent guitar players still in HS are at a talent level to do that. This tune was part of my youth. I was a teenager when it was first released, and I still remember it as a gig which set the standard for the generation of rock bands that flourished in the 90s. But we should point out that Pantera imposed the Power Metal genre within rock music, and that's why the band has become so popular ever since.
@michaeldavis69144 жыл бұрын
One thing that was brilliant about Dime is that he knew the magic of simplicity. He was a skilled guitar player and could have written riffs far more complex, but chose to stay simple, which is almost always more effective. It takes a good writer to be able to understand that. I mean, the walk riff is what, two notes? Then you listen to this riff, Drag the waters Riff, Broken, Even Cemetery Gates is not all that complex. All the riffs were simple, but hard as hell and effective.
@Sage-qd6tf3 жыл бұрын
I think walk is three notes but you’re definitely right about simplicity. That’s one of the reasons I like hardcore punk, cause it’s loud and fast but not hella complex which I like.

My personal recommendations for new, exciting music - Skinflint, Snowy Shaw, Rezet, Sons of Apollo, Melted Bodies, Avatar, Gunslingers, Compressorhead, Idles, Tengger Cavalry , Bloodywood, The Hu, Igorrr, Shining (Norway), Poppy, Nova Twins, Al-Namrood, Spiritbox, Plaag Also, there’s been many great releases from established artists. Judas Priest, Machine Head, Korn, Metallica… even Arthur Brown, yes, the guy who made “Fire” back in 1968, now 80 years old, released new album this year, surprisingly great.

There's only one reason the era of classic metal spans into the 90s and that reason is because of Pantera. When metal was on the decline as popular metal bands faced decline in popularity and/or quality, Pantera injected the genre with new blood with this album, saving it and giving it another time in the spotlight as grunge was on the rise.
@joetroutt74255 жыл бұрын
How dare you mention grunge on a Pantera comment section.

there's nothing wrong with grunge, don't be a metalhead stereotype looking down on every other genre. i like this and I like Nirvana.
@joetroutt74255 жыл бұрын
@@moeburn the thing about Nirvana was that Curt Cobane was the posterboy for grunge and he absolutely hated fame and did nothing but outrageous antics to get him more attention. Now was he being coy and secretively loving it or did he absolutely hate it? Now to address the grunge/metal conflict. As was metioned metal was on its way out and rock needing resuscitation grunge was what gave it new life. Raw, unpolished, and different ppl saw it as degrading to metal bc the simplistic riffs and arrangements and repetitive vocals that had no substance (imo) Yes there's nothing wrong with grunge if you want to trade in your 1972 454 SS Chevelle for a gas saving Prius.
