Im kinda nooby when it comes to what the shape of the board means but what does the straight board do for you vs a board with a lower drop

A straight board will snap in and out of slides and requires more downward force to slide. A board with a micro drop and/or flush mount will be a bit easier to kick out, and requires less downward force. If you are just getting into it, you will probably like a board with some sort of drop to make sliding easier. Entirely your choice though!
