This is why I love Fabolous' music. He's the most diverse artist ever. Party tracks, street tracks, soul tracks, r&b tracks(for the females), anthem tracks . He will talk about the most realist shit in "Sacrifices" and you'll hear him in "She Wildin". From "Young OG" to "Cuffin Season.. From "So Into You" to "The Plug". He's dropped street mixtapes, now his next album is an R&B album. He can make any type of hiphop music, only a few can do that. Still the most underrated and underappreciated artist of all time.

There is a fair amount of variety in today's music. But most radio stations don't play all the music that's out there. Radio stations don't play a lot of Kendrick, J. Cole, Logic, Lupe Fiasco, Big Krit, King Los, Immortal Technique, Run The Jewels, Chance the Rapper etc. just to name a few. But every time a new Future, Drake, Young Thug, song comes out. The radio plays it out. I dont get it

This argument about "balance" in music or on the radio needs to stop... especially when you say an artists' one bar complimenting a women, followed by saying something sexual, is "BALANCE". GTFOH. Then, in the next breath, say y'all don't even know what songs are about. This video is clickbait as fuck.

And for the record this is a very valid conversation that they are having. When you really sit down and disect what is being played on the radio and you cant tell what in God's name the song is about then houston we have a problem and as a matter of fact we been had a problem I am just surprised that we finally are discussing this. Im kinda proud, I see old man is doing his thing after years of (light jab) playing "southern music" thats shit!!

I feel both ladies. Gia wants a little bit of intellectual activity in her songs. Even though some of the songs she called balanced I really question though. You can't compare obviously heartfelt rap ballads of yesteryear {So into you by fab} to what being played on the radio today. There is no comparison between lyrical quality and production of a lot of the tracks that came out back then or even songs that are out now but don't get that much shine. Gia I know what you trying to get at but I ithink you should check out a wider variety of music not only Hip Hop.The reason why it doesn't seem balanced is because what you consider the jam or the "turn up" HAS NO SUBSTANCE. It's like going to the local butcher and demanding broccoli. You simply won't find it there. Ebro said it best when he said people can get in a box. Most people who complain about the radio sounding funny these days only listened to Trap, ratchet... Or frequent World star... On social media following some artists who put out incoherent opulence and call it music. By getting into other kinds of music you will free yourself from that boxed in feeling you get when you consume alot of the same shtick in my opinion. There ain't nothing wrong in having fun just don't believe all that hype.... In other words don't be stoopid.

I was on a hip-hop forum a couple years ago and somebody brought up a theory regarding rap music.. After the 9/11 attacks that's when Southern rap music started taking over mainstream outlets (I know cash money/no limit was slowly bubbling from '97-2000) but people just wanted to party and feel good and dance after the terrorist attacks,that's how the South took over. Maybe it was just a changing of the guard. N.Y. and the west had rap on lock from day 1 until about 2002.
@nmessai215
@nmessai215 8 жыл бұрын
the issue with the west was that they were never that lyrical. They also played a part in hip hop changing for the worse. Common's "I used to love her" was a shot at west coast hip hop

Ebro is obviously not aware of KDAY 1580am which back in the early 80's(I moved from DC to LA in 83) and they were playing rap/hip hop 24/7 all the way until they went off the air in 91. And they didn't just play west coast but east coast, and south as well. Most of y'all (unless you from LA) didn't know about KDAY until you saw "Straight Outta Compton" movie because KDAY was largely responsible for NWA's early success. But they were the first 24 hour rap station. Just an FYI.

Huh? They weren't playing rap music on a regular before 1992? What is Ebro talking about? It must have been a NY thing cause it was on all the time in Detroit. WJLB 98 (97.9) was the top station for R&B, Rap, etc in the 80s. They had a whole timeslot dedicated to rap (after 5 if I'm not mistaken) so you could hear Will, RunDMC, LL, Cutis Blow, Kool Mo, etc. Am I confused? Any other Detroiters want to chime in?

+MsJuya Street homeboy's history is flawed. i'm from detroit as well, and rap music, like newcleus, afrika bambaataa, egyptian lover, kurtis blow, run dmc, whodini, and the fat boys was on the radio pre 1985 on the REGULAR. u'd hear 'it'z like that', 'jam on it', and 'planet rock' like ALL DAMN DAY. stations just weren't as segregated back then. u'd hear madonna, then grand master flash, then the police, then prince, then duran duran, then michael jackson...ALL BACK TO BACK. hell, kurtis blow's 'the breaks' was GOLD way back in 1980. buy the time 1990 got here, acts like ll cool jay, salt n pepa, and the beastie boys were POP status, with songs all over the charts AND radio. and as far as '90s radio just playing "non rap versions" of songs...in 1992 michael jackson had heavy d rapping on his hit record 'jam' BECAUSE rap was so big.

there WAS, IS and ALWAYS WILL BE diversity and balance in rap...the mainstream media just doesn't reflect it. just like it blames NWA and other black rappers for glorifying misogyny, violence, crime, bastard children, and drugs...and introducing all this to rap. well, remember these lyrics? "father to many, married to none and in case u'r unaware i carry a gun stepped into the party, the place was overpacked saw the kid that dissed my homey and shot him in the back man, i had to get a beeper cause my phone is tapped u better keep ur mouth shut cause i'm fully strapped i got money in the bank, i can still get high that's why ur girlfriend thinks that i'm so fly i've got money and juice, twin sisters in my bed their father had envy so i shot him in the head if i played guitar i'd be jimmy page the girlies i like r underage girls with boyfriends r the kind i like i'll steal ur honey like i stole ur bike my father, he's jealous cause i'm making that green i've got a list of girlies' numbers from the places i've been ...there it is." lyrics by legendary, white, hip hop group the BEASTIE BOYS. and they went QUADRUPLE PLATINUM talking like this way back in '86, a year before cube, eazy and dre blew with it.

I completely understand what the girl on the left is talking about tho..Talking about sex in EVERY SONG is so boring and has no substance whatsoever..The fact that this is what people want more of in music just shows how people don't have taste for more meaningful music. I find it hard to believe that music about effing hoes is really meaningful and good stuff to listen to ALL THE TIME...Maybe it's just because I'm an artist, but I would much rather listen to the real songs that have some meaning to them if I had to choose between the two, if it was a choice between that and ratchet songs the rest of my life, just saying
