cartesian reductionism still has its place in science and life in general, however, the point of the film is that it is inherently limited and not only is misleading in the realm of human knowledge ethics and society, but typically harmful to all living and non-living systems because of lack of ecological literacy and complexity. When one understands complex adaptive systems, one sees, among many other things, that all life is dependent on other living and non-living things.
